Hello everyone,
I recently lost my virginity (two weeks ago). After the sex I noticed that things just felt "wetter" than normal down there. So I got up and went to the bathroom and I had bled EVERYWHERE. It was horrible. Now nothing hurt me at all. I don't think it could have been my hymen breaking because things have been up there before and I've used tampons in the past. Also, there was way to much blood for it to be that if it was. I was even still bleeding for a bit afterward, so much so that I had to put on a pantyliner.
What could this be from? I don't have regular periods and I thought it might be from that but I'm not sure. I'm just curious to see if other people have had this experience before. It freaked me out quite a bit because I definitely was not expecting that. I'm just worried it will happen again the next time. I have a gyno appointment scheduled but I wanted to ask here to see if anyone else has had this happen.
Thanks for any advice =]

Date: 2011-02-13 06:38 am (UTC)Torn hymens can bleed pretty amazingly, and even spot for a few days after, so I wouldn't rule it out at all.
On the other hand, jostling everything around down there could've sparked a period, too! Bodies are wonky. O:>
If you have irregular periods, I would like to show you my pet hobby-horse, Thyroid Issues. I ignored all my symptoms for years (like, maybe 15 of them!), and when I was finally diagnosed and treated, symptoms I thought were "normal" went away or got much less annoying! It made me a fanatic about recommending that people get at least their TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) tested, and get the numbers. It should be between .4 and 4.
Hope all goes well!

Date: 2011-02-13 04:58 pm (UTC)and i never thought about thyroid issues. my doctor has never even mentioned that. i might ask to get blood work done for that! thanks =]

Date: 2011-02-13 08:59 pm (UTC)Ahem. Anyway, I'd say that there's no harm in getting tested (well, they have to draw blood, which always sucks, but...), and could be great benefit. Don't settle for the doctor saying "normal," though. Make them tell you what the numbers are! Being a politely pushy patient gets me better care than just letting the doctors try to figure stuff out. (I'm also low on ferritin. Another test I wound up having to ask for!)

Date: 2011-02-13 04:59 pm (UTC)I bled the first 8 or so times that I had sex, not counting other activities that made me bleed a bit when I first became "sexually active" (I hate that term, it makes me think we need an activate button or something).

Date: 2011-02-13 05:00 pm (UTC)OP - Mine did not tear until I was 30. I'd used tampons for 18 years, had internal ultrasounds and manual examinations, a d&c, Mirena insertion, aand a whole lot of sex. The sex wasn't with men, and involved objects that would dwarf an average penis. It just would not budge. Then one day my gf gently slid her thumb into me and POP, no more membrane! I bled and everything. She's given birth and still has bits of hers too.

Date: 2011-02-13 04:26 pm (UTC)Now, this could be the case for you, and if so, I wouldn't worry about it, but it could be what some of the other commenters have suggested as well. I advise talking to your gyno, just like you have planned, in order to settle any lingering fears/questions you have. :)

Date: 2011-02-16 06:08 am (UTC)Years later, I can still see the tear at my vaginal opening - it kind of looks like a tatty ear that cats get when they fight, like a little bite taken out.
Don't worry, you're fine. :)
