Yeah, I seem to remember something about a certain string+body composition that was a perfect storm for the development of nasties, but was rapidly discontinued. Using any modern tampon according to safety guidelines (clean hands, never in anticipation of bleeding, never for non-period/withdrawal bleeding, never to soak up discharge, following the time limit in inserts, as low an absorbency as possible) the chance of problems, regardless of past vaginal history, is very rare. I'd ask for a second opinion too OP.
