Okay, I know I post here a lot lately but I have been unable to get an appointment with my gyno until mid-January and I am just at a loss about whats going on. I tried to call their nurse line but they are not open today.

I posted a while back about bleeding for what I felt was too long. It was suggested to me that I try taking my inactive BC pills. So, that Sunday (the 26th) I began the inactive pills (I actually skipped a month of regular pills because I am going to just try getting the depo shot). For the first few days the bleeding got a little heavier. Then, yesterday I began soaking through super tampons in a half hour. I went to bed with a super tampon as well as a pad. This morning I woke up cramping. My fiance pulled the covers away and we saw what looked like a murder scene. I was covered in blood. When I was getting undressed, my pad had clots (fairly small) on it and it was down my legs and my sweat pants were ruined.

Is this to be expected when taking inactive pills after skipping a few weeks of them (I am on seasonique so I only taking inactive pills 1 week out of every 3 months, so I only actually skipped like 2). Is this even worth calling the nurse line to try to get in quicker? I am getting mixed thoughts from Google and my periods have always been very light and have never lasted more than a day or two. If this is normal, I have no idea. Any thoughts? Just within the last few months with my cramping to the point I am taking vicodin to get through work (which I know cramps that bad are not normal). I am bleeding like crazy. I am always tired. I am just miserable.

All my periods are heavy like that, but this is my normal. If such a thing is abnormal for you, don't hesitate to go to an urgent care clinic or ER to get checked out.

My period is this heavy, as well, but if it's not normal for you, I concur to get checked. Seasonique made me bleed for about 70 days straight (some days spotting, some days like a real period). You're tired because of the amount of iron you're losing, and you're right, Vicodin for cramps isn't a good sign. If I were you, honestly, I would go to an urgent care clinic. Lots of blood for someone who doesn't bleed much normally can be scary. Best of luck! Feel better!!

I would go to urgent care or something similar. Now. Better safe than sorry.

The inactive pills are sugar pills. There is nothing in them. literally. Nothing.

Go to urgent care and get checked out to be safe.

I *think* what she means is that she'd been stacking her packs (only taking the active pills, without breaks), so she was advised to take the placebo pills to induce a full withdrawal bleed, not that the placebo pills have anything specifically in them that would help with the bleeding.

But yes, that sounds urgent care- or ER-worthy!

Definitely see a doc asap. Bleeding should not be that heavy, especially when it is unusual for you.

Bleeding through a pad or tampon in an hour or less, especially for multiple hours, is Talk To Doctor Time, and yes, it is worth either an urgent care clinic or talking to the nurse line to try to get in quicker. Some people, they're okay doing this, and it's even possible this is just your uterus going, "Finally a hormone drop! BLEEEEEEEED!" -- but this isn't normal for you, and you are TIRED -- which suggests you are anemic. The bad cramping also suggests that larger-than-is-healthy clots may be involved.

So! Doctor time! ASAP, I'd say. Good luck!

when this happened to me, and i finally went to the doctor, it turned out i have uterine fibroids that were causing the heavier than normal bleeding (i'd bleed through a tampon, my cup, and a pad in about 90 minutes. coupled with already-existing anemia, this posed a problem).

initially, i was put on the pill to control things, but that didn't help, due to complications. once the offending fibroid was removed, all was well. i don't even need the BC anymore.

in other words: go see a medical professional, as soon as i you can. and i agree with [personal profile] archangelbeth: try explaining over the phone why you need your appointment moved. i had to do the same thing. there was a horrendous wait, but knowing what was going on with my body completely made the wait worthwhile.
