I really hope this does work and becomes available soon - hopefuly it will mean I can get off pills and maybe get my libedo back.

Something that caught my attention about it when I heard it on the news tonight, was that there was some mention of there being something in it to get over the side effects - mood swings and a lowered sex drive - why the fuck didn't they think about that with female birth control?

Yeah, because it's only women who should be using birth control unless they really really can't. Sooner the better for me.

By the way, your icon is very cool

ha. now guys won't have any fricken' excuse not to be on it :P

i find it funny that it's an injectable though...
i don't know if i would trust my boyfriend to take a pill every day (since he can't even remember other daily necessities half the time), especially since I'M the one who could get pregnant, not him.
"it's okay, baby, i'm on the pill." shya right :P

i think it's weird when people say they wouldn't trust their partner to take a pill. i wouldn't want to have a long-term partner who i didn't trust about birth control!

exactly what i was thinking.

that struck me too. and i realize no one here was generalizing, so this is somewhat unrelated, but I often hear people say that they don't think men in general could be trusted to take a pill every day, and that upsets me. i don't understand why people don't see that stereotyping is stereotyping, no matter who you're doing it to. sure, some people can't remember that sort of thing, but women are included in those people. i worried that i wouldn't remember - so i set an alarm and that made sure I always took it right on time. :)

anyway, this is really cool, and i hope it continues to test well and is available soon. it's so nice to expand BC options. :)

I just like to be in control, so i feel more comfortable knowing i was the one incharge of preventing pregnant. It's my body, i feel like i should be in charge of it. But it isn't anything about not trusting males, i would trust my partner 100%, its about me being in control ;)

Everyone sounds really excited about it. Hell, I think it's great too. But I'm not *eee* about it. Drugs just frighten me because there is always a catch to them. Like if you take too much motrin you kidneys [or was it liver?] can get damaged. I posted this in [livejournal.com profile] phallicpregunta:
"Although it's been experimented with for 5 years, I still would warn me boyfriend if he decided to use it. I'm not very trusting of drugs because many times there are long term effects and I would just die inside knowing that I could have prevented my boyfriend from hurting himself unknowingly. That can sound a bit over dramatic, but I do not wish anything to happen to him, as I'm sure you'd feel the same way."
What do you think?

i agree. i don't take hormonal birth control because i don't like to consume unnatural things when i don't need to, and i also want to avoid the side effects. my boyfriend is the same way and i'm more interested in pursuing natural methods.

i'm glad they're finding new methods of birth control, and that males are getting more responsibility in it. i'm sure it'll work for some people. personally this doesn't do much for me though.

With male birth control, i understand that because its still so new the long long term side effects are still unknown. But i think female birth control is extremly safe. I'm not a big fan of drugs myself, but i've found nothing but benifits being on birth control. But i think in life everything is a risk. We're poluting our bodies everyday by just breathing the air, and eating foods that could possibly be harmful. Of course, you shouldn't go walk in the middle of traffic or swallow gasoline, but i don't think life is worth avoiding things that look scary simply because they could be harmful. The most important thing is to always educate yourself about the product before you decide to use it.

Eh...I wouldn't want my SO to take it. Why? Because I feel more secure taking a pill or whatever myself. There's too much of a chaos factor in men. All women have to do is have ovulation prevented. Stopping men from ejaculating 15 million little soldiers into you? I'm not about to trust a medication to stop that, no matter how effective it's been proven to be or whatever. Eh, I'm superstitious. But like I said, the major reason for me is feeling secure.

I don't think I would trust a guy to take it now, but when I'm married (to whomever that will be) I would love it if he did this. I don't want to take BC forever and I can't really think of any other birthcontrol that I would like to use and I do not want either my husband or myself to get "fixed." I think the implant option would be great for a couple to consider, especially if there is no side effects. Thanks for sharing that!

This is great! I have horrid side effects from the Pill, and both cancer and blood clots already run in my family, so I just can't be on it forever. However, my husband and I are not sure if we want one or two kids, and this would give us time between them where I would not be on the Pill (especially cause I don't want to be putting any chemicals into my body while I am nursing!)

I personally don't understand why anyone would ever be with anyone who could not handle taking care of this. Pregnancy and family planning are serious trust issues, as in "should not be done without trust" I think a man who respects your body and the choices made between the two of you could be responsible enough to get his butt to the doctor!

this pleases me greatly. My longterm sexual partner is hyper hyper paranoid about pregnancy, even though i take orthotricyclen and take it correctly and religiously. it would dampen his paranoia if he were able to take something to control this as well, i believe. I know that alot of women here are saying "i just prefer to know that i took it" and "i trust myself to take it, but not him" but what if the male partner feels the same way?
if you're both on bc, then everyone feels a little more comfortable knowing they did their part.
now. if only we could get that injection that instantly destroys all the world's STDs...

I don't know if I'm too into that. My husband is getting a vasectomy after I turn 25 if we don't want another child (which is most likely not going to happen). I'm enjoying having control over birth control, also I'm a sex worker, and the rape rates are higher amongst us and it's just safer for me to be on birth control.

It definitely sounded interesting actually! We'd probably use it if it were in our best interest.
