Sooo...I don't know what's going on with my labia, but...something's going on.

My perineum is really tender to the touch, and so is, like, the back of my left labial lip (closest to the perineum) is the same. It's uncomfortable and somewhat painful to sit and walk.

I think it MIGHT be due to chafing, but I'm not sure. This is going to sound random as hell, but the other day, an octopus spat water all over my stomach and crotch (I volunteer at an aquarium), so..maybe the line of bikini cut panties I was wearing got wet and was chafing my skin? But I don't remember feeling any sort of discomfort. This weird discomfort started the day after.

Or does it sound like an infection? I'm very prone to them.

Does anyone have any suggestions for treating chafing? I just want to see if that fixes it. Because OMG, this is REALLY not...comfortable.

Thanks, ya'll.

Just wanted to say how badass I think it is that you work at an aquarium with octopus! I am such a cephalopod fan too! I just watched a special on Nova tonight about cuttlefish that I've seen like 5 times now :D

I hope you figure out what your problem is soon. Sounds uncomfortable.

While that is a very bizarre event, sometimes, stuff like that just happens. I've had exactly what you're talking about and it stuck around for a while, but it went away on its own, never getting worse.

You should get checked by your doctor. If you don't have health insurance, you can go to Planned Parenthood, where they will check your lady business out and usually only charge on a sliding scale.

In the meantime, pick this up:

For a little under $7, not only will this help your problem, downstairs, it also doubles as a face primer for makeup! Its comparable to Smashbox Photo Finish!
Here's more info about it, if using it as a face primer appeals to you:

If you need relief right now and have it lying around, try a little Vaseline, to ease the discomfort.

Best of luck to you!

I would probably avoid using Vaseline on my vulva since it could actually cause further irritation/infection. Alice says:

Granted, that link is about using Vaseline as lube (yikes!), but I'm working off the understanding that anything you put on the outside of your vulva could get inside your vagina and wreak some havoc.

Just my $.02. ;)

I agree, the symptoms described sound like an initial herpes outbreak.

Have you had penetrative sex recently? Sounds a bit like the discomfort I'd get after certain angles of entry.

Well, I read this a little while ago that not drying off FULLY after a shower means that any moisture left in folds in the skin (gee, do we know a place like that?) can foster bacterial growth. [It's no wonder that I sit wrapped up in a towel for at least 30 minutes post shower.]

Adding to that is the fact that whatever the octopus spat up at you would definitely NOT be sterile doesn't help. You might want to try disinfecting the affected area with warm water and salt. If that doesn't help, then a visit to the doctor and a prescription for an antibiotic is probably warranted, especially as you already say you're prone to infections.

Remedies for chafing usually require that the chafed parts of the body do NOT rub against other skin. At home, can you wear soft, loose sleep pants? And, at work, perhaps (looser) boys' swim trunks?

I've had that happen sometimes randomly, the sore/not quite chafing thing. I've never figured out what causes it in myself, I just figure my perineum hates me.

I use diaper cream/that vagisil anti-itch cream. I don't know if it's a placebo effect, or something moisturizing (or the lidocane in the vagisil one) that works, but it seems to feel better in a few days.

To help sooth the chafing, try a cool cloth. Definitely stay away from tight pants for a while. If it doesn't go away in a week or so, then it may be something else, and you should see a doctor.
