I use ortho tri cyclen and I skipped my last period. There's a bit of spotting now, but nothing big. I was reading that with ortho tri cyclen, you need to start the second pack backwards, which I didn't know last time. First, is this true? And second, does it change the efficacy of the pill? Thank you:)

No, with Ortho-Tri cyclen you increase your hormone levels every week until your placebo week and then start over again.
I'm not sure how it effects the efficiency, however, if you go backwards.

Ack, I found this old VP entry about skipping periods. Some of the comments address efficacy:

With a triphasic pill, it's recommended to stack them like 1-2-3-3-2-1-4 or 1-1-2-2-3-3-4 rather than 1-2-3-1-2-3-4 because of the risk of breakthrough bleeding. None of these stacking methods will compromise your pregnancy protection, but the last one, the one you used, is more likely than the others to give you some breakthrough bleeding.
