I was at my friendly local Planned Parenthood today, and they regret to inform us, yet again, that due to cuts in state funding, they are being forced to raise prices.

ARRGH!

So please, all you hard core, rockin' women... pick up a voter registration card. We need you!

No can do, sistah. I come from Austin, the city that the state leg. has tried to make into its own district like D.C. so that we can't have any say in state politics, the city that they are trying to redistrict right off the map... aka the city that already tried the "Texans don't want the war" card.

My solution- vote the bastard out of office.

My roommate wants to be a librarian because they started shredding records when Patriot I came out. Kudos also to the Postal Service for saying they would not be a part of it.

I know this guy who is a librarian that calls the FBI every time someone checks out a banned book. It is SO funny. He's like "I just wanted to do my duty as an American and let you know that another kid checked out Huck Finn." I would probably do that too.

i went to my local planned parenthood a few weeks ago and they failed to mention the huge price change until my appointment was over and i was at the pay counter. it really angered me....grrr.

You should try going to your local PP's website (most have one)... or calling ahead. I called ahead before my appointment and had exact cash to give them with the appointment was over.

Unfortunately, there's not much they can do about raising prices since the nurses and doctors there work as a volunteer and for a pay cut (my aunt worked at a PP for four years on weekends while she was studying to become an RN).

well i always call ahead. i doubt i could get in at all if i didn't-i usually have to wait 2 hours before being seen. that's why i was frusterated, they never mentioned a cost increase to me. i understand why and all-and i very much appreciate planned parenthood being available for women. i just need to find a general practicinar that i like. i want a "real" doctor.

I fucking hate bush so much. If i owend a gun, i'd gladly shoot him and go to prison, i think it'd be WELL worth it. But i'm anti-gun so maybe not.

When Bush was voted president I was SO MAD that I wasn't 18. Of course, my state (WA) voted Gore, so I guess it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

We thought about it. As we were sitting there, watching the big party going on down the street at the capitol building from our TV, we were laughing about how even though there was this huge hubbub going on, most of the rest of the people in the same zip code voted for Nader. In fact, the official presidential endorsement for the University of Texas went to Ralph Nader. But there was also much crying... not this time, though

I also love that he is suddenly this big feminist that cares about the downtrodden women of Afghanistan when it is an excuse to bomb the shit out of people. Why not worry about the women here first? GRRR!

What kinds of laws should I vote for? (Sorry I'm new!)

WOOO! I am proud. Go you, get registered, and grab a pamphlet from the League of Women voters in your area. For the most part, you don't vote for laws, you vote for the people that make/vote for laws, and the LOWV has a pretty good rundown of candidates. Choose wisely, grasshopper. Vote early, vote often! Vote in the primaries, vote for legislators, state lege, mayors, judges. Municipal elections are SUPER important, because your vote actually really truly counts.

The laws that you vote for usually have to deal with taxes in your city, apportionment of public lands, changes to state constitution, etc.

****Most of all**** Get your friends to vote! 18-24 year olds have all the fire in their eyes, but are also the most underrepresented demographic group. Rock the frickin vote next year! I know I will be.

I am a big dork, the best part about turning 18 for me was being able to check "Yes" on the voter registration part of my drivers license (TX is a motor-voter state).

Hell, I think that people should care enough about their college town to register to vote there.

Although sometimes it pisses me off when people who have been living here one year or less vote in local elections, if they don't actually have any concept of the needs of the community beyond the college campus.

Yesyes! You can register to vote even if you live in a dorm I go to college downtown in the city I gew up in, and I registered with this precinct so that I would not have to cross town to vote. Additionally, you can just register again with your hometown when you get back. I doubt there will be elections in the summer or winter breaks, and you can register as many times as you move. Muy facil, at least in texas.
