Absolutely anything inserted in the vagina before the post-partum bleeding stops increases your risk of infection. Anything at all. That being said, I wore a regular maxi pad inside my disposable panties, with a pair of Depends over top to hold everything in place. I only had to do this for 2 or 3 days, and after that, a maxi pad was fine.
