Date: 2003-08-22 08:02 am (UTC)we finally stopped using condoms with spermicide and they went away. i'm not sure if this is your problem but it's something to think about.
apparently being before and after sex didn't help my problems with nonoxynol 9.

talk to your doctor to see if there is any other way of preventing them rather than having to treat them constantly. :)

Date: 2003-08-22 08:21 am (UTC)I looked into homeopathic remedies to get rid of the problem.
Would you consider homeopathic remedies?
"The philosophy of homeopathy is that 'like cures like.' A person treats a specific health problem by ingesting minute amounts of a substance that, in large amounts, might actually cause the same problem in a healthy person.
In homeopathy, remedies are prepared by diluting a substance, such as a herb or a mineral, with water or alcohol. The more diluted a preparation is, the more powerful its healing abilities are considered to be.
Homeopathic practitioners believe that an illness is specific to each person. For example, if you visit a practitioner, he or she will "profile" all your physical, emotional, and mental characteristics to determine the best treatment. Because homeopathic remedies are so diluted, they are basically without side effects. That can make them especially helpful for problems related to pregnancy, menstruation, or menopause. Often someone takes a remedy only a few times, rather than for a long period of time — and that's appealing to many women."
So, with that being said, I will tell you what has worked for me:
Apis
Cantharsis
Staphysagria
Belladonna
other remedies that might work are:
Mercurius corrosivius
Sarsparilla
Phosphorus
Now, it would be better if you got a book that explains more in depth how these remedies work, but here are some basic instructions:
1. do not touch the medicine with your hands.
2. take one medicine at a time.
3. take before meals.
4. take the remedy one time, see how you feel and if the symptoms get worse before they get better, repeat the dose.
5. if you begin to feel symptoms, take the remedy every few hours.
6. the concentration to get is 30C, 200X, 200C or 1M.
I would get bladder infections after sex all the time, no matter what i did. I went on a trip to visit my bf in NY. I had not seen him in 4 months and so I knew that we were going to be very sexually active during the trip :)
So, I started taking the remedies a day before I went on my trip and then, I would take the remedies before sex, after sex and whenever I remembered to. I may have taken them a bit too much, but, I wanted to not get an infection.
I can say that I did not get an infection and residual pain from past infections that were lurking in my system are entirely gone.
I would highly reccomend this method of dealing with UTIs.

Date: 2003-08-22 08:47 am (UTC)do you drink enough (non coffeine, non carbonated) stuff?
does your bf take a shower before you get sexual?
could it be that he's giving them to you? does he get them too?
wear cotton underwear and loose clothing in general.
what does your doctor say? maybe you need to take low dose antibiotics for a longer period of time.
get well soon!

Date: 2003-08-22 09:16 am (UTC)Yeah, they're a real bitch.
I thought I was getting a lot of them for a while too... then recently I found out that I have a cyst in my ovary. Cysts can sometimes leak bacteria, and cause all sorts of health problems in other organs. I'm not saying that's what you have; it's just one possibility.

Date: 2003-08-24 05:37 am (UTC)I had a UTI early in the year - my doc prescribed antibiotics but it didn't go away. He then did a urine culture and determined the bacteria causing mine was resistant to the antibiotic he had prescribed - once he changed the meds it went away and so far so good ;)
