Hey all,
I have a UTI, even went to the doctor because I also have a bug. I get somewhat chronic UTIs so last year purchased D Mannosse (I have seen it discussed in this community before) because of my aversion to antibiotics.

This UTI came on very quickly and I was in a lot of pain, but now feel much better (although I definitely still have it and need to treat it.) I took some of it last night and then went to the doctor this morning, who of course gave me antibiotics.

Question:
-should I take the antibiotics? or should i try out the D Mannosse (Until this UTI I have not tried it yet)
-if I take the antibiotics, will the D Mannosse I already took last night and today effect it?

thanks.

You should take the antibiotics.

If you have a UTI supplements aren't going to make it vanish. UTIs can become fatal very quickly when left untreated. Several people in this community have become very ill from underlying UTIs that they thought they had successfully treated with either supplements or earlier antibiotics.

had an asymptomatic UTI that landed me in a specialist neurology centre, and being told that arriving at my local emergency treatment facility a mere two hours later than I had would've resulted in death. As it is, ten months later, I'm still very ill as a result.

Nobody likes antibiotics, but sometimes we need them. Without them a great deal of us would already be dead. The d-mannose shouldn't affect your prescription. Like cranberry extract it's merely a disruptive preventative agent that can prevent bacteria overgrowth in healthy urinary tracts. Once there's active infection it's relatively useless.

Remember to drink a lot of fluids with your meds.

Every time there's a UTI post, I know that you'll have a great comment. You are a friend to kidneys everywhere.

I agree with the above poster. I take D-Mannose as a preventative for UTIs, but it's really dangerous to try and treat a UTI with supplements. I've heard of people saying that it works, but knowing how bad a UTI can get if it doesn't get treated, there is no way I'd test it. Not worth the pain and harm you can do to yourself if it fails.

I also hate antibiotics, they make me sick. I found that taking a good acidophilus supplement with the antibiotics really helps. You can find that in drugstores or vitamin stores.

Hope you feel better, I know how awful those things are.

I think that's more of an alternative treatment, as I've had an acupunturist recommend it to me. But I haven't gone on it yet so I don't know how it's going to work.

Iiiiiii personally would still take the antibiotics if you have an active infection.
