Ok so. I have to have a pap smear done and a biopsy of my cervix done on the 28th. (Which happens to be my 21st birthday by the way)
And then i have to go in a few weeks later and have a dnc done.
And i'm kinda freaking out.
I mean i've had a pap done before. But has anyone had a biopsy or dnc done and can tell me anyting about it? I'm scared.
Thanks in advance

Um, are you sure it's a biopsy of the cervix (the part that sticks out into your vagina) instead of the uterus? If it's the uterus, it will hurt a bit, less from sliding the implement through the cervix and more so on the way out after a couple of snips. I found that taking a couple of Tylenol 3s about 30 minutes beforehand helped a lot. And having a doctor with an amazing bedside manner.

I've had a d&c (hysteroscopy) which means it was done through the vagina with a laser; ::giggles:: that makes me think of a remote control sub glidng through the vagina shooting out rayguns. It was done under a general anaesthetic and took a long time (I had a major fibroid and smaller ones). Afterwards, the only considerable pain was throughout the abdominal cavity because they pump you full of gas to separate/isolate the organs, so they won't burn anything by accident. But, otherwise, I was fine. The operation was on a Thursday. There was a lot of bleeding the first couple of days and I stayed in bed, took painkillers and was pampered. But, on Monday, I went on a 4-mile walk with my best friend. No pain. I was fine!

I hope my story will reassure you. It's actually the least problematic procedures I've had done (just don't ask me about my three eye surgeries, 'cuz YUCK and OUCH).

Good luck!
And, if you have any other questions, I'm right here.

Lucky me, I just had a biopsy done on Tuesday during a colposcopy because my regular pap came back abnormal.

A colposcopy/cervical biopsy is extremely similar to a regular pap smear. You get in the chair, they use the speculum and take a looksee around. In my case, they were looking for abnormal cells so they put some iodine on my cervix to see the color change. The doctor saw 2 spots where there did seem to be some weird cells, so she wanted to take a biopsy from each area.

Iirc, first she used a small brush thing to swab a general area around my whole cervix. Then she took a biopsy from both spots of abnormal cells. The biopsies didn't really hurt, more like a pinch. (For the record, I am not freaky about gynecological things so your own pain tolerance may be lower and it might actually really hurt. I didn't take any painkillers beforehand as they might thin the blood and cause more bleeding.) Finally, she put some silver nitrate on the biopsies to stop them from bleeding, which probably hurt the worst; it stung. The whole thing took maybe 20 minutes, and my doctor was great and kept me talking, so it didn't hurt much more than a regular pap. Cervices don't have a whole lot of nerves in them so that's why the biopsy feels like a pinch, but your uterus will cramp up in protest, and that's what hurts.

The day of, I had some pretty uncomfortable cramps (for me, they were like first-day-of-period cramps) but they were easily tackled by ibuprofen. I've been spotting since then with occasional cramps here or there, but nothing too bad. I'd rather have some cramping and spotting than cervical cancer. :)

So that was my experience. In short, it's just like a pap only with more cramping and a bit of bleeding, but nothing overly painful for me.
