I'm think about getting a Nuva Ring. i was wondering if anyone has first hand experience with it? i want to ask

-is it comfortable
-can you have sex with it in
-do you need to use a second method of birth control
-are there side effects
-can it fall out

I know my doctor will give me stats and generic facts, but i want to know what real women have encountered.

I just got my script for the ring, but i haven't started using it. It you go to the nuva ring web site ( www.nuvaring.com ) you can print out a voucher to take with you when you get the perscription filled to get a FREE one. So you can try it for the first month free.

I've heard wonderful things about it, so come first week in september, i'll be starting it.

- I have a friend who uses it, and loves it. You can't even feel it once it's in.
- yes, you can
-no, it has the same effectiveness of the pill, so condoms are only necessary for protection against STIs (if that is an issue for you) or if they make you feel more comfortable and safe.
- there can be. that varies for everyone. it has the same possible side effects of the pill, but is probably less likely to give you problems as it is very low dose and releases hormones locally.
-theoretically, but it shouldn't. i assume you would check for it now and then, to be sure it's still there. :)

There are some really great memory entries in [livejournal.com profile] birthcontrol from some girls who are currently using the ring :)

-yes, you can't feel it at all.
-yes (you can also take it out for sex as long as you put it back in right afterward, but most people keep it in during sex without problems)
-not unless you're really really terrified of pregnancy (it's as effective as the Pill)
-very few, since the dose of hormones is so low
-no, though you should check it every once in a while and also make sure it doesn't get pulled out during sex.

I have been on the nuva ring for at least 6 mos now. Its great.. u cant feel it at all, it can slip out but the possiblitys of that happening are super slim. Using a second method of birth control is up to you. And u can have sex with it in.. If it does slip out during sex all u have to do is rinse it off and insert it back in. :D And they even have a little timer u keep on ur stand or something where it beeps when u need to change and put it back it.. its great and i have had NO problems with it at all. It has actually made my periods, shorter and lighter.
