Breast pain

I suspect this will turn out to be nothing to worry about, but I'd like some reassurance really before I make a decision on whether or not to bother my GP. For the last month or so, I've been getting on and off tenderness in my right breast, and I think (although it's hard to tell), it may be a bit bigger than it was before. I've had a good feel around, and it's a little harder than my left one, but there's no change to the texture otherwise, no new lumps or anything. The nipple hasn't changed at all, and there's no discharge. It's also highly unlikely to be cancer, because I'm 28 and there's no history of any cancer at all in my family for at least three generations. There's no redness or heat, so I doubt it's an infection (and mastitis tends not to 'grumble' like this, it gets worse quickly).

I'm wondering if it might be hormonal, the last time it was sore was around my period, and I think I'm ovulating at the moment (it's about the right point in my cycle, anyway). That begs the question though, why now? I've not been on HBC for almost two years, and although I've just had an IUD fitted it's a copper one so shouldn't have any effect on my boobs. I can't be pregnant, because I've not had penetrative sex since August.

I'm also wondering if it might be mechanical - just before last time, and just before this time I'd been camping, I sleep on my front and too the right, so maybe it's just been squashed on the hard floor.

So has anyone else's breasts start hurting for no discernable reason? Did it go away of it's own accord eventually?

Hi,

My breasts hurt for one (up to a couple of) day(s) around ovulation time. It's really annoying, but my gyno told me 4 weeks ago that it's normal (for me).The same as you, there are no other changes (discharge, redness or whathaveyou).

Maybe keep an eye on it and if it bugs you, check it out with your doctor?

yes! my right side (upper-breast/armpit) area hurt for a while, and I think constantly "checking" and pressing around to feel for lumps made it feel even more tender and bruised. I think these things just come and go. I wouldn't be too worried unless I felt something different, or some lumps.. However, if it persists, and you are worried, go see a gyno - they would be able to tell right away if something is wrong =)
