Aug. 13th, 2003 11:08 pmI'ma cross post this is the real_women community...
2 years ago, I went to get my hair cut, and this sadistic bitch butchered me with the layering job from hell.
Now I'm growing it out, and everytime I get it nice I have to cut it again to weed out the layering. Whenever I do, I feel real bad, cuz I desperately want long hair.
Does anyone know of any female-safe products to speed up hair growth? At home tips? Natural ingredients in the home that can be used? Anything ya have is cool. :-D
PLEASE mention side effects! I won't take any of those things where the commercial warns against cancer and bleeding ulcers or some other such nonsense. :P

Wash your hair only every other day, max! Use a good conditioner on it whenever you do wash it. Rinse it when you shower with warm water to help spread the oils down the hairshaft. Only brush it when it is dry, wet hair streeeetches and then breaks. Use a leave-in conditioner and detangler. Brush your hair gently with a paddle brush, detangle the very very ends, then work your way up. If you encounter a tangle, STOP take the brush out of the hair, and work at it from the bottom. Try not to blow dry it. Braid it when you sleep. Trim just the very ends, about an eight of an inch every 3 weeks or so. Don't color it or perm it, until you get it to the length you want.

Also, if you want, I'd consider springing for one of those professional spa scalp/hair treatments. If you go to a reputable place, there shouldn't be any problems, although good treatments usually end up being around 15 bucks.
Finally, I remember I once checked out this book from the library that had a bunch of natural beauty products you could make from stuff in your kitchen like bananas and honey and stuff. I don't remember what it was called, but if you search your library, there should be something along those lines.

Date: 2003-08-14 08:56 am (UTC)the biggest problem when you're trying to grow your hair out generally tends to be breakage - this will be prevented by the methods described above, namely not brushing it when wet and conditioning well. seems odd, but one of the best things you can do is have just the ends trimmed off reguarly. prevents any split ends from going further up the shaft of the hair and breaking it off.
I have destroyed my hair, brought it back, and destroyed it again. it's been every colour and length in the book. hair always grows back. that's the best part about it.
