IUD strings and reaching my cervix

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to reach my cervix/check my IUD strings if I'm having trouble?

We decided we wanted to try checking the strings on my new IUD today. So we got all washed up, and I felt around first and couldn't get very far (I have small hands, and my fingers didn't seem to reach). So then Ryan tried - his hands are definently bigger - but he couldn't find anything either. We can't even tell what we're feeling, really.

Oh, and my cervix should be low, as far as I know, because I got my period on Sunday and I'm mostly done bleeding now, although I am spotting from the IUD still.

I'm thinking I might look in to getting a speculum if we can't figure this out.

Eh, it's hard sometimes, and the strings are small and soft, and will often wrap around your cervix, leaving not much to actually touch! You have to feel around on your cervix to feel the small, soft strings.

Sooooo if you can do it, lie back or lift one leg up on something and get right in there and try to touch your cervix, int he middle. If you can get your hand to your cervix at all, then you can try to navigate toward the center, and have an easier time of feeling the strings.

The cervix will feel round, and the middle will be soft, with the surrounding round-donut like area being firm. don't try to press in the middle of the cervix too much.

The cervix likes to move around a lot. So try when you're in the shower every day till you finally get ahold of it. It took me a while, but I have it down now.

Sometimes I still can't feel it but I just wait and check later.

Try checking for it in a sitting position while bearing down (sort of like you're trying to take a poo). That pushes your cervix down and makes it a bit easier to reach.

This is a bit of an odd suggestion, but you might be able to get specula from various fetish shops, if you don't know where to look for them and are comfortable with that sort of thing.
