I think I might have another yeast infection, and I am just fed up and frustrated.

Last month I had a yeast infection that didn't go away with regular over-the-counter treatment, so I went to the doctor's on the 15th and she prescribed me some super-duper powerful medication to use (I don't remember the name of it). It was a seven-day cream, so I used it for the full seven days as recommended. With two days of the treatment left, I got my period. Made things a bit messy, but I continued as normal. My period ended, and then a few days after I got to spend the weekend with my long-distance boyfriend, and we had sex a few times, but I always peed afterwards (I know that's more for UTI prevention, but anyways) and cleaned up. Now it's a week later and I think I have another yeast infection!! I seem to have the same symptoms as I usually do (lots of yellow discharge, a little itchiness, and much soreness), but there's no bread-like smell like usual. I don't understand how I could have gotten another infection so soon after my last-- I haven't taken any antibiotics that could have caused it, I've worn 100% cotton undies like normal, no tight pants, and I've been taking my Pill like usual. So what's up?

I really don't want to have to go to the doctor's again, because last time was a huge hassle to get an appointment, etc. Should I just get some over-the-counter medication and hope it clears up? And any recommendations for good brands and such? Last time I bought a generic Rite Aid brand, but if anyone can recommend anything better, I'd be up for it. Thanks!

Where you using condoms with your boyfriend? What's the timing of your seeing him/having sex with him and your yeast infections? He could also have a yeast infection and not know it - then you'd just be passing it back and forth among yourselves.

Otherwise, if you were travelling, or your normal schedule/dietary habits/sleep schedule, etc. were knocked out of whack it could trigger another yeast infection.

I've seen many women here swear by yogurt and garlic as home-cures. I don't get yeast infections (or rather, I haven't since I was 10 or so) so unfortunately I can't help you with treatment ideas much. I'm sure the memories has plenty of information on things to try.

If you have been eating more sweets or carbs than usual (even sweetened drinks) that can also cause a yeast infection. Too much sugar can affect the balance of good and evil in your vagina. You don't have to be diabetic for this to happen.

too much sugar or...

...too much beer. These things make for a very unhappy cunt. Do you shave? Put any weird lotions or sprays on it? Those could cause problems , too.
OR you could have chlymidia (sp). The symtoms are the same as a yeasty.

my 2 cents

As for the boyfriend symptoms...my boyfriend didn't have much for symptoms at all. In fact, he didn't think he had any at all when I got a yeast infection; but after treating him anyway (since I had one it was best for him to be treated in case) it was obvious to him that the head of his penis was less red than it had been and he generally just felt more "comfy" down there. I think that the symptoms for men vary and could be anything from red/itchiness to nothing at all. Do a search on a health website like this one I found through google: http://www.msu.edu/user/eisthen/yeast/men.html

My boyfriend is diabetic and he gets yeast infections sometimes.
The head of his penis swells and becomes red. He gets a little bit itchy. We have actually passed it back and forth before.
I have a problem with reoccuring yeast infections and I hate it. Sometimes I can talk my doctor into giving me sample packs and I don't even have to go in for an appointment, just to pick them up at the nurse's window. Generally, if you are buying over the counter don't buy the store brand and buy the 7 day treatment because it is stronger. The one day treatments, especially the little round gel ball thing that you use ... do not work on me at all. Good luck.

You mentioned that this time your symptoms are a little different (no bread-smell, like you normally have). This makes me think you might actually have BV now. For a while, I was having problems with both infections, and treating one tended to encourage the other. It might be worth going back to the doctor just to check, and also to talk about your recurring infection problems. If it is BV, it will only go away with medication.

If it's yeast though, it's probably treatable with garlic or yogurt. However, keep in mind that all yogurt will do for BV is suppress the symptoms for a bit, so you could still be infected and not really know.

Good luck, I know how frustrating all of this can be. I hope you feel better soon!
