You know how on the last few days of your period when you have a light flow, your vagina gets kind of itchy? How do you all take care of that? Corn powder? Baby powder to dry up wetness or whatever?
I'm thinking of starting to pat myself down with medicated Gold Bond powder, because it's getting REALLY irritating. Monistat cream, perhaps? I know that deals with the itchiness that can come from yeast infections and such. Just wondering what everyone else does.

Date: 2003-08-03 11:16 pm (UTC)I-Village says (http://www.ivillage.co.uk/pregnancyandbaby/baby/babyhealth/qas/0,,30_157313,00.html) the following:
Several of these studies have shown a possible link between talcum powder use and ovarian cancer while others have not. One interesting study published in 1996 was done by examining the ovaries of women who had had them removed for reasons other than ovarian cancer. In that study, talcum powder was found in all the ovaries including the ones from women who did not use talcum powder on themselves. This suggests that talcum powder could reach the ovaries of women who use talcum powder on their babies.
The relationship between talcum powder and cancer is by no means certain. It may turn out there is no relationship. On the other hand, it could be an important contributing factor in the development of ovarian cancer. More studies need to be done. Currently, there is absolutely no hard evidence to suggest talcum powder use causes cancer in babies. However, the immediate danger of inhaling baby powder is clear.
Erm...well, maybe I should go back to using corn starch/corn powder like my mom does...
The Asbestos Network (http://www.asbestosnetwork.com/exposure/ex_consumer.htm) says that talcum powder probably contains some amount of asbestos (a known cancer-causing agent).
