Hey Guys, Just a question:
I had been having some weird things happening with my vag for the past 3 weeks or so (sorta itchy, tight feeling, minimal but chunky white discharge and fishy smell)
I work at a womans clinic and talked to my nurse and dr here (so  no physical check) and they said it sounded like yeast. I feel its kinda conflicty from what I have read on here and other places Yeast infections dont really have that pungent smell, but BV doesnt get that chunky discharge...
DR. prescribed me Fluconazole which I took last night. I know it says that it should take min. 24 hours but I should find relief within 3-5 days.
If this is not a yeast infection and it is BV, would the fluconazole clear that up as well? Anyone care to share their epxeriences using this pill and how long it took for them to find relief?
What do you think about the conflicting symptoms?

this is so frusterating!!

Thanks gals/guys

Fluconazole is an antifungal, and as such will only treat fungal infections like a yeast infection. It will not affect BV (which is a bacterial infection) or any other infection to my knowledge.

As [livejournal.com profile] queensugar said, it's only an antifungal. It's possible to have both a yeast infection and BV at the same time though. Your best bet would be to get a physical exam and have them do a smear of the discharge if you're still worried it might be BV.

I think it worked fairly well for me when I took it a few years ago, but I ended up being allergic to it (yay throat getting swollen!) so I've only used it twice and don't really remember.

I've never had BV, but it gave me relief for my YI within about 3-4 days. (I took it on a Saturday and the worst of the itchy, tight feeling was gone by Tuesday. I think everything was fully gone by Wednesday.)

I've taken Diflucan a few times (is it the same thing?). It takes em a bit over a day to notice any change and then 2-3 days for there to be really obvious relief of symptoms. It's always been quite effective for me though.

The generic name is Fluconazole, the brand name is Diflucan. (That kind of confused me at first, so I think of the parallel of ibuprofen as the base, but it can be found in Advil, Motrin, and others.)

The more you know! haha
