right well for the last 6 weeks or so i have had a very very bad case of oral thrush and have been on something like 6 different strong anti-fungal medications and to no avail at all as far as i can tell its getting worse! I know the pill can cause thrush but my mother is absoultly convinced that if i get off the pill it will go away(also a bid to try and stop me having sex but it aint happenin)

anyway i was wondering would going off the pill temporarily actually help my oral thrush???????????

Have you been tested for diabetes or HIV? While vaginal thrush is more common with women using hormonal birth control (so while it's not a guarantee that it will go away if you get off the pill, your mother has the right idea in that it may help to go off it), oral thrush is fairly rare in adults unless there is a problem with the immune system, like HIV.

I'd definitely recommend it being done, not just to help solve the thrush problem -- the earlier it can start being treated, the better! And if it's not diabetes, then at least you've ruled that out.

Seconding what loonylupinlover says. It's usually down to HIV, diabetes, or certain inhaled preparations for respiratory problems. I'd ask for a retest of HIV and a fasting blood and glucose tolerance test to check and see if you have diabetes or some sort of insulin resistance.

My friend had a negative HIV test but later he developed a severe case of oral thrush, and after a retest he was declared positive. He's doing great now though, in really good health.

I hope it clears soon, I know how bloody awful it is! I have to take a steroid inhaler sometimes for my asthma and it always leads to thrush cos of my wonky immune system. I end up feeling like I've got a shoe in my mouth because of the swelling and difficulty talking!

I'm sure it'll be something simple, and hopefully they can get rid of it for you, and rule out any underlying problems.
