Ok so I started antibiotics (Doxycylcline) about 2 - 2 1/2 weeks for my skin. I've been using it along with birth control (YAZ) which I have been on for 1 1/2 years. I am very aware that some antibiotics interfere with birth control, making it less affective so I should use a back up method. During my time of taking these antibiotics, I have had sex once (but without back up method, I was stupid and forgot in the "heat" of the moment) But used Plan B a few hours after, just to be sure (and put condoms in my purse so I wont forget again).

So that is my situation, now here is the problem - my period is delayed. I shouldnt be pregnant, so I dont know what is going on. I googled my problem and found that antibiotics may delay your period, but every thing I read said I may be pregnant but I'm looking for other answers, or explainations? Thanks so much in advance, even just for reading this. I'm kind of paranoid here.

not all antibiotics interfere with birth control but i did look it up & it seems doxycylcline does interfere and makes birth control pills a little less effective. if you used plan b its very unlikely you're pregnant. its common for plan b to mess up your cycle & cause you to spot or even have a delayed period. its more than likely just the plan b that is messing with your cycle, if you are worried you can take a pregnancy test anytime now & it should be accurate.

The one time I took emergency contraception, I missed my next period (and I freaked out, so don't worry about being the only paranoid person around here! I think it's an instinctive thing) so my vote is for the messed up period being caused by that - if the antibiotics only made your protection less effective (but I don't think it rendered it entirely useless? I'm not 100% on that) and then the EC was on top of that, you've had a fair dose of hormones keeping ovulation at bay so I wouldn't worry about pregnancy :-)

It's very possible that the antibiotics delayed your period--being sick always screws up mine!--but even more likely that Plan B messed with your cycle. It's super normal to have an irregular period after taking emergency contraception.

If you only started taking birth control 2-2.5 weeks ago then surely you shouldn't be expecting a period yet because you're not in your placebo week?

It was the antibiotics she started two weeks ago.

I actually started doxycycline recently and had breakthrough bleeding/spotting for my first time ever, and that ended up like, being my period.
