Generally, it's believed that sperm stays alive for 5-7 days at most. There is one, count her, one researcher who believes that sperm can stay alive longer by cuddling up with fallopian tube cells, and has managed to keep sperm alive in the lab for something like 11 days.
If you haven't had sex during your normal placebo week, you're probably fine. Just start taking your active pills as soon as you can.
(And, just so's you know -- not everyone on VP is a girl: some have the mind, but not the factory-installed equipment, and some have the equipment but would like a higher-tech-than-we-have after-market adjustment, if you see what I mean. O:> )
