I know every planned parenthood is different but I'm curious.
My friend is asking me to go with her to planned parenthood tomorrow just to be checked out in general. She doesn't have an appointment and is saying she can just "walk-in". Do they allow this or should she call in the morning (they are closed now) and find out if they have an appointment available for her tomorrow?

Thank you :)

Yeah, even with an appointment you can still wait a while. But it's still best to call, because you can wait even longer without one, especially if you go during a time when it's busy.

if you call now, there will probably be a recording with the hours for walk-ins. every pp location is different, so call the specific location.

Some do, some don't. If she hasn't confirmed that your local PP offers walk-ins, she should. An aside: walk-ins also mean that your wait time cannot be predicted. Making an appointment may save your day.

Knowing the pattern of all the PPs I have gone to, you can walk in - but you might wait for HOURS. And, they probably won't have an appointment for tomorrow if you call tomorrow. ALSO - with regards to the PPs I have been to - you can only make an appointment for less than two weeks from the day you call. So if they are full, you have to walk in anyways. Plus, and I promise this is the last one, having an appointment doesn't guarantee that you won't wait those hours anyway. I remember having an appointment for 3:15pm one day and not being seen until around 4:30pm. Then the doctor was in a hurry to leave and I got bad treatment. But, what can you do when you don't have insurance? *sigh*

I would highly highly recommend that if she doesn't have an urgent problem, and just wants a general check up, she call and schedule an appointment. a) it will potentially save LOTS of waiting time, and b) she won't be taking walk-in spots from people who actually need to be seen that day. :)

Oh, I forgot. My planned parenthood often didn't have "just need a check up!" type appointments for the near future - they typically scheduled them about 3 months out. Which is a long time...but if she just wants a pap or something, its not really a big deal.

the one i went to didn't even accept walk-ins. call and make sure, and be prepared to wait regardless.

You can look up the location online at the planned parenthood website and see what kinds of services they offer - mine lists walk-ins as a service with specified hours and everything.

Edited for typos.

Mine has both drop-in and appointments. I think appointment hours are 9:30-3 and drop-in hours are 1-8. Those drop-in hours are subject to change, so I was told to call before coming to confirm that there was drop-in. (I once went at 5:30 and was told that I couldn't be seen, even though there were 2.5 hours of drop-in left.)I prefer to make appointments, but I find that appointments usually need to be made a couple weeks ahead of time.

(This is Canada though...)
