Epilators

Has anyone/does anyone use an epilator to remove hair from their pubic area?  I have never used one and have no idea how to, but I am curious.  Shaving and waxing gives me horrible bumps, burning, bleeding, ingrown hairs... you get the idea.  I hate Nair/Veet and products similar.  No matter what I do, I always have problems.  The method I have had the most success with is tweezing, but as you can imagine, that is pretty time-consuming.  Can anyone with experience fill me in on epilators?  Any other advice is welcome.

It hurts like hell - you couldn't pay me to use it on my pubic area.

I use mine for my arms and it is all I can do to finish sometimes. But it does do a nice job. I get pretty bad bumps with it, but they go away within a couple hours.

Ripping out hair with spinning springs...yeah...

My evil ex-step-father's 3rd wife uses one on his legs as punishment when he gives her trouble.

My suggestion is pay a visit to [livejournal.com profile] vintage_sex, see how nice the ladies look and go natural.

My epilator hurts like hell on my legs and gave me ingrown hairs (which I never got on my legs from anything else, but I would never be brave/stupid enough to try it on my pubic area.

I have used a product called ingrow go from skin doctors, which you apply a couple of days before and after you shave, which REALLY helped with the uncomfortable-ness and ingrown hairs.

I have a Braun eliplator that I bought for the underarms. That hurts like hell. I will never use it on my bikini area, which is a shame!

Yeah, I do. It's the only area I use it. Every few week though.

Blah, epilators suck. I am super unimpressed with mine. Maybe I just have really strong roots, but the epilator can't always get half the hairs out. So I have to run it up my legs for HOURS and I usually just end up tweezing a bunch. If you use it on the mound area, it will get most of the hair out but not all, and it will probably hurt. But it'll be a bit better than shaving and not as good as waxing.

I find it difficult to epilate in any nooks and crannies, too, so if you want to get near your labia or your anus, it is a huge pain in the ass. (no pun intended. hehe).

I know at least two people who swear by their epilators, but maybe I have a crappy epilator and/or muscular hair follicles.

I do still use it on my legs, but it really doesn't do much good.

I use my epilator occasionally on my legs and I sometimes do my bikini line as well - just round the edges. It hurts like hell though so I usually don't get too far in.

a couple of things that help:
1. keep the skin as tight as possible under those spinning disks! you don't want much 'give' to the skin because the length of the pull provided by the disks is limited. also realize that what hurts the most is when it tugs on hair but doesn't actually pull it.
2. scrub the area vigorously with something like a loofa; conceptually what you are doing here is sort of 'using up' some of the sensitivity in the area, probably also actually loosens the tiny muscles in the skin...
3. Don't try it on a patch of long hair; you won't pull the long ones (too much 'give') and will tend to grab too many at once.
4. hold the head firmly against the skin and stroke the disks parallel to the natural direction of the hair as it comes out of the skin. I use kind of a rolling stroke and work in from a bare area to a populated one. Short strokes.
5. (I know I am a guy and don't have the same amount or type of delicate skin, but I think these hints apply no matter where you use it; for instance, I don't know how you would use it on underarms without an extra hand to pull the skin tight enough... hmmm maybe if you grabbed onto the top of a door and put some of your weight on the arm you were shaving, it would pull the skin enough)..

Good luck!

Terry

I don't have experience with waxing or epilators of the nether regions or legs, but I did try sugar waxing today (I did it myself) and it was fast and impressive. I don't know what it will be like in the future but I have read that you have less in-grown hairs from it. It only attaches to dead cells (hair and dead skin) and off it goes. I was really impressed. It hurt a lot less (in my opinion) than singularly ripping out hairs. I have used a wax on my upper lip and eyebrows before and wasn't impressed. I still got bumps plus the wax stuck. The sugar just washes off.

It is expensive, and doesn't always remove all the hairs. I had it done on my face and it hurt but not as much as waxing or electrolysis. It removed the majority of the hairs, but there are still some stubborn dark ones that came back. They seem to be coming back the older I get too...darn hormone imbalance...
