Has anyone/does anyone use an epilator to remove hair from their pubic area? I have never used one and have no idea how to, but I am curious. Shaving and waxing gives me horrible bumps, burning, bleeding, ingrown hairs... you get the idea. I hate Nair/Veet and products similar. No matter what I do, I always have problems. The method I have had the most success with is tweezing, but as you can imagine, that is pretty time-consuming. Can anyone with experience fill me in on epilators? Any other advice is welcome.

Date: 2008-09-03 02:20 am (UTC)1. keep the skin as tight as possible under those spinning disks! you don't want much 'give' to the skin because the length of the pull provided by the disks is limited. also realize that what hurts the most is when it tugs on hair but doesn't actually pull it.
2. scrub the area vigorously with something like a loofa; conceptually what you are doing here is sort of 'using up' some of the sensitivity in the area, probably also actually loosens the tiny muscles in the skin...
3. Don't try it on a patch of long hair; you won't pull the long ones (too much 'give') and will tend to grab too many at once.
4. hold the head firmly against the skin and stroke the disks parallel to the natural direction of the hair as it comes out of the skin. I use kind of a rolling stroke and work in from a bare area to a populated one. Short strokes.
5. (I know I am a guy and don't have the same amount or type of delicate skin, but I think these hints apply no matter where you use it; for instance, I don't know how you would use it on underarms without an extra hand to pull the skin tight enough... hmmm maybe if you grabbed onto the top of a door and put some of your weight on the arm you were shaving, it would pull the skin enough)..
Good luck!
Terry
