Tampon Issues

vaginapaginaI tend to have a lot of problems with tampons. I've read the instructions many times over but I still can never seem to insert them correctly. After I put them in I can feel them and it's very uncomfortable. How do I know I've inserted the tampon far enough before I compress the applicator? Pulling the tampon out can be painful sometimes also and I'm not sure why. Does anyone know how I could make my attempts at tampon-use more successful?
