Ovulation while on the pill/Lazy left ovary

I always experienced middleschmertz when I had my period before I was on HBC. For the last few months, I've experienced that same feeling about a week after my period ends. (In addition to my forehead breaking out the few days before, and spotting) I'm certain it's the same feeling. Am I really ovulating? Does that indicate that my HBC isn't preventing pregnancy? I haven't been sexually active in such a long time, but I might be in the very near future, so I'm a little worried.

Whenever I experience this, it's always on the right side of my pelvis. When I went to the hospital for "appendicitis," they found that I'd had a cyst burst on my right ovary, and had three other cysts from, as they called it, "failed ovulation." But nothing on my left. So is it possible that I only ovulate from the right ovary? Is that a potential problem in the future?

yes, you could be ovulating still. I ovulate when on the pill. (watched an egg erupt during a sonogram. not cool). (I now have an IUD).

i think trying another birth control would be something to consider. especially with rupturing cysts. what kind of bc are you on?

Ovulating from one ovary or the other in an arrhythmic pattern is really quite common; I wouldn't worry about it. It's like flipping a coin: each month, you've basically got a 50/50 chance as to which ovary will ovulate first. Just because you get heads the last few times doesn't mean you're any more or less likely to get tails on your next flip. So I wouldn't worry about that.

However, I would be worried about potentially ovulating even though you're on HBC. That's definitely something I would look into.

you could be ovulating on the pill, certainly. it happens for some women. fortunately, combined bcp (the kind with estrogen and progestin) works in several different ways, so even if you're ovulating, it's nothing to be concerned about, and you are still protected from pregnancy.

i'd recommend speaking with your health care provider for peace of mind, though. :)
