OK, so back around valentine's day, I decided to try waxing down there for my first time. I went to the store... the only thing I could really fine was this "Surgi" brand brazilian waxing kit, which is strip free, and it's a hard wax (which might be why I found it excessively painful...). I had done self waxing before but on my legs. This was my first time waxing down there... I didn't do a full brazilian-- I just wanted to get the front part mostly. I managed to get a lot of it one night, but it became too painful to continue. Then I got some more the next night, again until it got too painful.

I was just thinking of this 'cause I'm cleaning out my dorm now, and I found the jar with some wax left and just threw the thing out... too traumatic to try that stuff again!

But I really want to find out if there's a better way to wax down there... I hate shaving b/c the sharpness irritates my skin there a lot, so I usually just leave my pubic hair alone; but I want to wax it if there's a way for it to not feel like absolute hell. I know that waxing is painful no matter what, but is there any more gentle brand/type/method that you ladies recommend? Or should I maybe get a professional to do it?

I really like sugaring, specifically MOOM -- it doesn't need to be hot like wax, it doesn't harden like wax, and if something is too painful to rip off, you can just wash it away with water (unlike wax where you have no choice). It also doesn't hurt me as badly, perhaps because it isn't as harsh on the skin. You only need a thin layer and the strips are reusable, so it lasts longer. I've been satisfied with the results!

My local co-op sells it, but I've also found it on Amazon.

Not much of a help, but I have tried that stuff before and it was awful! I tried to do it before my wedding and I spent the majority of the night before hunched over in bed, trying to figure out how to rip the stupid wax out. I thought I was going to have Plastic Green Vagina syndrome forever. Agreed that it's traumatic.

It might help to have a professional wax done once or twice just to see how the waxer does it; while I've never waxed myself, I think I could pull it off now that I've had someone else do it on me several times.

Also, after one wax, your hair will start to grow in cycles, and it will be much less painful to wax yourself.

I use Parissa Coarse Hair/Full Body wax strips (the kind you rub with your hands to warm, and peel apart). I cut them into 1/4ths, and they actually work really well for crotchfluff.

If you're one of those people who is afraid of the pain and can't just RIP the strips away (it hurts more when you do it too slowly), you're probably better off getting it done at a salon.

This might be kind of awkward, but I have heard that it is better to have someone yank it for you, even if they are not a pro.

After 20+ years of shaving my legs, pits and girly-bits, I grew excessively tired of razor burn on my sensitive skin. I tried every lotion and gel and cream before, during and after shaving to no avail. Recently I decided to buy myself one of those wax-at-home kits and give that a go. I only managed to do some of both of my legs before I couldn't take it anymore. It hurt and I made a huge mess with purple wax all over the place.

I decided this past week to give tweezing a try and bought my first pair of hair-removal tweezers ever. It ended up being quite addictive and I find myself sitting around looking for hair to pluck out of my legs and girly-bits now. It only seems to get a bit red and irritated just after I pull the hairs out, and within half an hour I can't even tell I plucked the hairs out.

If shaving and waxing don't work out for you, you might try tweezing. It takes a while but I'm having fantastic results!
