Random bleeding

I flipped through the tags and found this VP post but it doesn't quite answer my question so I was hoping you guys could help with my specific situation.

After I had sex with my boyfriend last night, we noticed some blood on his sheets. I assumed it was spotting and we quickly forgot about it. This morning, I went to pee and there was blood in my underwear, lots of blood in the toilet after I urinated, and blood on the tissue I used to wipe. My last period was from April 24-29 so I know it's not my cycle starting. That cycle was a weird one. It was 5 days late and was abnormally light. The blood I'm seeing now is a dark red/brownish color and thin in consistency.

I'm not on any birth control and never have been. Is there reason for me to be concerned about this random bleeding?

For reason's unknown to my gyno, I bleed after sex, quite consistently. It's usually worse if my partner is well endowed down there.

I've only bled after sex once and it was different than this. I'm still bleeding the next day and it's only getting heavier throughout the day. I'm now bleeding like I do during a menstrual cycle. I'm really confused as to what on earth my uterus is doing.

If you're not on hormonal birth control, I'd suggest taking a pregnancy test just in case. Very Light Bleeding is not a symptom of pregnancy -- but it doesn't rule it out very well, either, as I found. (Fortunately for me, that was a deliberate situation of not using any contraception at all that year. O:> Still very confusing, though!)

I had the really light period and now it's like I'm having another period a couple weeks later - I just went to the bathroom again and there was lots of blood and clots coming out. This has never happened before and I have no idea what could be causing it.

My boyfriend and I agreed that I should take a pregnancy test, just to make sure. We use condoms for contraception but those aren't perfect.

If you're having a lot of bleeding now, then that's likely to be an indication of no pregnancy -- though if you got a positive result, it could be an indication of a miscarriage. (I'd check with a doctor to make sure everything's going well, though, because I'm Miss Paranoid.)

Or -- if you get a negative result on the test -- it could just be that your body got a bit stressed, had a light, "absent-minded" period, and then realized "Oh, hay, i forgots to bleed! is bleed tiems nao! FWOOSH!" I had something of the reverse, once; after 68 days between the end of one and the beginning of the next (hey, college finals stress!), I got sick, took antibiotics, and started a scanty, brownish, gunky period, 13 days after the last one'd ended.

This same thing happened to me, and it turns out I was pregnant and having a miscarriage. Definitely take the pregnancy test, and if it is positive, see your doctor immediately.

I sometimes bleed if the sex is rough. If it's accompanied by tenderness and slight swelling, that's probably what it is. Wait a day and see if it goes away; otherwise, take a pregnancy test.
