I've been experiencing pain in my abdomen since new year's eve. It started out feeling like my belt was too tight and was pressing into me, but nothing I did could make the feeling go away. The pain has persisted since then feeling like a dull ache (feels a lot like menstrual cramps) or sometimes I feel sharp pains that make me double over. The worst twinges of pain are where I imagine my right ovary to be. My period was about two weeks ago, so I don't think it's because I'm about to get my period or anything like that. I know 3 days isn't a really long time, but I still am kinda concerned that I've been in pain for 3 days for a reason I can't figure out! The fact that it hurts the most in the ovary area has me worried that it could be a cyst. I don't know much about ovarian cysts (what it's supposed to feel like if you have them) except that you feel abdominal and lower back pain. I have problems with my back and it hurts a lot anyway, so I really haven't noticed anything unusual and have no way of being able to tell if it's from a cyst or just my usual pain.
I haven't spoken to my doctor yet because of the holidays, and I am calling and making an appointment tomorrow, but I was just curious if anyone had any insight or if I could gain any knowledge in the meantime.
Thanks :)

If its on the right side, and constant, I would suggest considering the possibility of your appendix (assuming of course you still have it)

Yeah I didn't either till this summer :) Unfortunately I have cysts also, but at least I know it isn't my appendix when my side hurts anymore :D

Similar Issue

I have a similar issue--I just finished my period on Sunday and am now having twinges of pain on my right side. I've had them before, but this time the pain is more frequent and intense.

omgggggggg i felt that pain too, on the 28th. it lasted for a few hours and i changed my pants, thinking my clothes were just too tight, but that wasn't it.
i drank water and tried to forget about it, because i was having to photograph someone.
after a few hours it went away.. and i only felt a little bit of pain the other day, but it's gone.
what's weird is, that i went to the doc that day? or the day before? and she thought i might have had ovarian cysts and made me get bloodwork for it, but when i went to the gyn a few weeks ago, she said i didn't have any. so. i don't know what's going on, but good luck. because i know how painful it is :\

oh yeah, but the pain went all the way up to below my belly button, in like a straight line in the center .

Sounds like how I feel when I ovulate, but its still definitely worth getting checked out. If its something unusual for you and persistent its really better to be safe than sorry.

That's true, or it could be follicular cysts that cause pain around that time as well.

But I found in my first few months off BC (its been four now) it was pretty bad for a few days, plus I was really bloated. Now its calmed down a lot again.

I'm of no personal help, but here's some information from reputable health sites about ovarian cysts:
-- from The National Women's Health Information Center (http://www.4woman.gov/faq/ovarian_cysts.htm)
-- the Mayo Clinic (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/ovarian-cysts/DS00129/DSECTION=2)
-- and the American Academy of Family Physicians, via familydoctor.org (http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/women/reproductive/gynecologic/279.html)
Hope some of these are helpful-- and that you feel better soon! :)
