Soo I didn't see this posted anywhere, so I figured it was ok to ask =) If Its already been asked please don't be mad at me...I just joined today, because a friend is a member and she said this is the perfect place for me to ask...sooo wondering...I'm not happy with the size of my breasts...they barely fill an "A" cup, its very sad...and I don't want breast implants, so I was going to start taking an herbal supplement to make them grow naturally on their own....Will this effect my bc??? And if so, in what ways???
and like I said, if this has already been asked I'm sorry =(

Date: 2007-10-19 12:50 pm (UTC)The quicklist of things that can decrease the effectiveness of hormonal birth control:
* the antibiotic rifampin. Other antibiotics do not make the pill less effective.
* certain anti-fungals that are taken orally for yeast infections
* certain anti-HIV protease inhibitors
* certain anti-seizure medications
* St. John's Wort
The longer list of herbs:
"Herbs to avoid while using hormonal birth control include St. John’s Wort, Vitex (chasteberry), Red Clover, Black and Blue Cohosh, Fennel, Hops, Dong Quai, Wild Yam, and Licorice. There could be many other herbs that interfere with the effectiveness of birth control, but because few studies have been done, it is not known which ones do this. Most of the herbs listed interfere because of their properties. All of them, except for the Licorice and St. John’s Wort, contain hormones (mostly estrogen) and can interfere with hormonal birth control by providing too much, or by causing the body to try to ‘correct’ any hormonal imbalance present."
But more detailed information will get you a more detailed response. ^_^

Date: 2007-10-19 09:03 pm (UTC)Generally, the amount taken as an herbal treatment or supplement (therapeutic amounts) is much greater and more refined/distilled than the amount consumed in a daily diet, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Date: 2007-10-19 09:09 pm (UTC)Generally, the amount of a plant taken as an herbal treatment or supplement (therapeutic amounts) is much greater and more refined/distilled than the amount consumed in a daily diet, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Hops are usually prepared and taken as an infusion or tincture [http://www.botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/h/hops--32.html], both of which extract useful properties (oils) in as condensed a way as possible (a little bit of water, a whole lot of plant). Beer is a whole lot of water, a little bit of plant, so even though I'm not an expert I'd say it's very much in the realm of daily diet and not a HBC danger, as most foods are.

I did not mean that most foods endanger the effectiveness of HBC.

Date: 2007-10-19 03:51 pm (UTC)I'm rockin' F cups over here. They're annoying, painful, and I'd take A cups any day.
Just wear padded bras and inserts. Besides, some women after being on bc for awhile start getting larger boobies. Maybe it will happen to you.

Date: 2007-10-19 04:14 pm (UTC)Anyway, you're not done growing yet! I grew an inch taller and went up half a cup size between 19 and 21. And if it makes you feel any better, as clothing sizes have gotten larger, so have cup sizes. I have A-cup bras that are brand new that are the same size as some older B-cup bras I have from a few years ago.
And being in the small boobie camp myself, there are more advantages to small breasts. It's easier to breastfeed your child (which I didn't realize until I actually had a child and it makes a huge difference). They don't bounce around when you run or do any aerobic type exercises that involve jumping. They don't get in the way of everything, particularly sleeping flat on your stomach. And your clothing will fit better.

Date: 2007-10-19 10:48 pm (UTC)Small boobs are going my way. My mom can only sleep on her side or back. I sleep on my side, back and stomach. Plus my boobs do not fall out of my clothes that are open in that are a bit :)....Plus my bf says they are perky instead of saggy. So love your small boobies :)!

Date: 2007-10-20 12:28 am (UTC)Those pills that DO cause breast growth do so only through sneaky methods like packing on water weight gain, which makes you bloat all over, and more than anything, is temporary. This is one of the primary mechanisms through birth control pills increasing cup size, too, and explains why any breast growth on BC tends to tone down once stopped. :)
