I posted a couple months ago about missed periods after discontinuing hormonal bc. My post was actually deleted because I had neglected to read the FAQs.
(Just for a little background info, I started Depo when I was 18 and then switched to the patch when I was 21. So 3 years Depo and one year of the patch prior to stopping HBC.)
Well, I found out that it was normal to miss periods after discontinuing hormonal bc. The issue for me was that I am trying to get an IUD and my doctor refuses to insert it unless I'm on my period.
After three missed periods, I called her and told her that I still wanted the IUD but had just not gotten my period. She had me come in and sounded my uterus to see if everything looked ok and I took a pregnancy test, which was negative. She then prescribed 20mg of dydrogesterone once a day for ten days. She said that two days after I stopped the pills I should get my period.
Well, 2 days came and went and I'm now on day 10. I did some research online and found that the 'normal' window for progestins to bring on a period is 2-7 days after finishing them, but that it can take up to 14 days.
Has anyone had any experiences like this? Did I find correct information and should I wait til day 14 to call her back or should I call her now?
I'm getting a little nervous that something might be wrong with me reproductively speaking.
And annoyed since I go home in two weeks to visit my boyfriend for the first time in four months and have no birth control lined up.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
