Wearing the ring for anywhere in between 3-4 weeks is acceptable.
Removing the ring for anywhere between 0-7 days is acceptable (a full week isn't necessary).
I, for example, might wear mine for 25 days and take it out for 4. (My doctor actually recommended to me a shorter hormone-free 'week'. I can't remember why.)
Basically, there aren't three options. There are many: Wear it for 3-4 weeks, take it out for 0-7 days.
