So, a weird question for ya'll.
I'm interested in waxing. Not just the down yonders, but legs too. I've never waxed before, and about to start doing the eyebrows (I'm sick of plucking)
Where would you go to look for brazilian waxes? I don't want any bikini ones, I want everything gone. I'm sick of shaving down there only for it to be ruined within the next day. Would it be done at a spa-sort area? About how much would it cost? (if you've had it done before)
Would this be done by a place that does legs, too? Or would they be two different places?
I'm already thinking that it's safe as so many women do it-- but I'm wondering if there are any precautions I should know about before getting myself into this.
Yes, lots of questions, I hope someone can provide answers :[ I don't have many female friends that I could ask. :\ Nor do I know if this is the proper community ;]
(if you can recommend somewhere else to look, that'd be great, too!)
Thanks!

Date: 2006-03-28 06:51 pm (UTC)brazilian wax isn't everything (it leaves a "landing strip") full bikini is everything & playboy bikini includes the back. they can range from $15-30 for the most part.
usually waxing places do everything. I've been getting my legs done lately to, and at the beginning I thought it might be pointless, I was getting more ingrown hairs and right after the waxing you're still sort of spiky, but once you get into the habit of doing it regularly it's a lot better than shaving =]
before: maybe take aspirin or tylenol if you're concerned about the pain (it's not oo bad) but avoid advil as it thins your blood and you'll bleed easier.
go for it, you'll love the results once you make it a regular thing, & eventually you won't ever have to worry about it again =]

I want to start waxing my legs because I hear it's good for exfoliation, and I have really dry skin-- another question though. Does the mass influx of ingrown hairs go down after doing it more?
Thanks again xD

Date: 2006-03-28 07:05 pm (UTC)yeah the ingrown hairs go away, just make sure you pay attention to them, the beginning is a bit of work, sitting there plucking hairs out of your legs lol but it goes away & your hair grows back so much thinner and slower before it stops growing alltogether.
no problemo

Date: 2006-03-28 07:26 pm (UTC)-make sure you are not due for your period in a few days. In fact, the best time to get waxed is about a week after your period (my personal experience), since you won't be retaining any water. This will make it hurt less.
-ask the waxer if she has a small heater in the room you are being waxed in. Bodies under even a small amount of duress are prone to be cold more quickly, and you may wish for some heat- esp. since you will be naked from the waist down.
-prior to going for the wax, I have found that it helps to use a gentle exfolient on the skin. I also use it the day after my waxing and throughout the month to prevent ingrown hairs.
-bring some olive oil with you in a small container. I have found that some places use baby oil to remove wax from the legs, and (for me), it isn't thick enough to remove all the wax. You really don't want your clothing sticking to your freshly waxed skin- esp when that skin is between your butt cheeks. =)

Date: 2006-03-28 09:25 pm (UTC)as far as where you could get this done, a spa sort of place would do it, but many (but not all) hair and/or nail salons that offer waxing generally will do a brazilian. this would likely be the same place you'd get your legs and eyebrows waxed.

Date: 2006-03-28 09:36 pm (UTC)they have plant based waxes that smell better and leave less residue and they use all kinds of great oils on you. and it's cheaper because students do the waxing. where i am (in chicago) they're really well supervised and it's always good.

Date: 2006-03-28 09:37 pm (UTC)I pay around $30/session.
And most likely they will offer all sorts of waxing at the same place.
I haven't had any problems with brazilians, except may a bit of sensitivity right after, but that's normal.

Good luck - you will love the results!!

Date: 2006-03-29 06:10 am (UTC)and compared to the pain of ingrown hairs, razor burn and itching caused by shaving, it's not bad at all.
andddd. the best part, you don't have little prickly pubies growing back an hour after you shave.
NEVER go swimming until your pores heal.
they will get infected and you'll get ugly little white head zitty things.
and always leave a nice tip for your aesthetician ;).
she'll treat you well.
