I was approved for Essure a few days ago, and while giving me a run-down of the procedure and what to expect, the physician's assistant told me it's sometimes done under a local anesthetic, but because most people don't tolerate that very well, general anesthesia is preferred. Then, when the doctor came in to speak to me about it, she said she does most of them under local...and, of course, local is less expensive, so I'll likely have to go with that. I've never had a surgical procedure done, or anything major going on in my uterus-fallopian tubes region (no pregnancies/abortions/births/IUDs), so I'm really worried. (They're going to give me a shot in my cervix :-/ wtf)
For those of you who've had the procedure, or know someone who has, were you under general or local? If you were under local, how did it feel? I know it only takes about 6 minutes, but that could be a hellacious 6 minutes.
