Hey y'all,
Between September 2014 and January 2015, I had 6 rounds of chemotherapy (R-EPOCH) for lymphoma. Sometime back in December, I stopped having periods. My gynecologist did a hormone panel a few weeks ago to make sure I wasn't entering menopause (I'm 29), and they just called today to say that I have slightly elevated prolactin levels (but no menopause, yay!). They just want to re-check in a few months, so I'm assuming it's not a big deal, but I'd still like to know what that could be about.
The nurse on the phone just said "it's a hormone" and Googling is turning up a lot of stuff about pituitary tumors, but that's not really helpful for me. I'd like to know what this could be about in my situation, particularly dealing with chemo.
So, questions:
1. Does anyone know what prolactin does or how this might be related to chemo?
2. What might be some possible complications of elevated prolactin?
3. Anyone here have menstrual issues after chemotherapy?
Fortunately, I got a period again just last week (yay!), so I'm thinking things are ok, but I like to know what's going on with my body if I can. It's been a rough ride and I take a lot of comfort in information.
Thanks!
