Hello, VPers!

We have a brief update for you all regarding cross-posting of comments and pingbacks, and how these changes impact VP.

LiveJournal has changed its policy regarding cross-posting of comments to Facebook and Twitter, per this recent news post. Previously, Cyrillic users were still able to cross-post comments made on protected entries, but that has been changed, and now no users are able to cross-post comments from protected entries.

It's still possible to cross-post comments made on VP entries that are public, though, and we'd ask that you consider VP's safe space policies before doing so. While it's not possible for us to keep track of what people are doing outside of LiveJournal, we do expect that VPers will be their usual wonderful selves and not intentionally share personal information about others' on their Facebook or Twitter feeds. (If you want to review your settings so that you don't accidentally cross-post comments, you can go here.)

Pingbacks are a fairly new LJ feature that may or may not impact VP. The concern (based on research done by Dreamwidth user helens78) is that the pingback feature may end up providing snippets of content from protected entries to non-authorized readers. So far this hasn't been an issue for VP, and probably won't be -- while we do have many protected posts, we also have open membership, so a person need only join the community in order to read protected entries. We're fairly confident that this is more of an issue for personal journals, but we will definitely keep you posted as we get more information.

Grrr....

I'm taking an online course right now, and we post to a discussion forum similar to a livejournal community.

Right now, there's a discussion going on that is not at all sex-positive or empowering. I am so used to vaginapagina that I forget sometimes how negative some people can be.

I'm mostly just ranting, but I'm also curious: if you were in a class like this, how would you respond to problematic posts? Part of me wants to jump in with clarifications, but another part of me thinks that would just prolong the negative discussion, and possibly start trouble. Maybe I should just post to the teacher and ask her to step in, but I'm pretty sure she won't have a problem with the conversation as is. So...what would you do?

EDIT: And...the teacher just joined in conversation. This is what she said:

"Jersey Shore" is a horrible show for teens. It glamorizes sex and alcohol abuse. Chlamydia can scar a young ladies fallopian tubes beyond repair and leave her sterile. It is one of the most common STDs out there.

Am I being too dramatic by getting upset about this? It's not false, exactly, but talk about scaremongering! And this from the teacher... I'm not really sure what to say this time. GRRRR

Okay so I am confused about something... Usually I get very hormonal when I ovulate, like sometimes it can be worse than my period. I started taking HBC pills the first day of my last period and everything has been going great, no missed pills, only one was 'late' (took it 8 hours after I was supposed to take it so it wasn't missed... just late I guess) and I haven't had any side effects I could see or anything. According to my cycle this is my ovulation week so I'm just finishing off the second week of pills (day 12 actually) and I am having ALL of my 'ovulating' symptoms!

I'm emotional, hormonal, my breasts are more tender, my sex drive is NUTS, my abdomen hurts some... all these normal symptoms of my 'ovulating time'. I've been using both protection and withdrawal method (one at a time, sometimes condoms sometimes withdrawal) and either way not worried about these being pregnancy symptoms since I've only been sexually active for 2 months and I had a normal HEAVY period once already (which was when I started my pack) and we had ONLY used condoms then anyway.

So, am I supposed to be having ovulating symptoms? Aren't the pills supposed to stop that?? I'm so confused!
