IUD & PID...

Well, I'm one of the lucky few who get PID with an IUD insertion even with all tests negative going into the procedure.
At the 72 hour mark with the antibiotics, the symptoms aren't improving. I get to head back to the doctor tomorrow and they will consider the next mode of action.
I must admit, I'm rather frightened. Researching online is yielding scary figures such as "15% chance of infertility" and the like... Has anyone dealt with PID before? I would love to hear your stories, the good and the bad. Facts and info sheets will be happily devoured, as well. I'm terrified, not knowing if my experience is "normal" or not...
On a more positive note, I have been thrilled with my clinic (the Options for Sexual Health clinic in Vancouver, Canada). When I called with concerns after finding a lump on my cervix two weeks after insertion, they slotted me in for an emergency appointment, even though they have very restricted office hours. My doctor did a very thorough exam, and decided it was best to go straight to the ER, as she didn't want to muck around with my fertility (and also, she said that immediate treatment was the best way to keep from pulling the IUD.) Both she and a nurse walked with me to the ER (after packing me a care package for the wait, including a chocolate bar, a pop and some cherries) to make sure that I got checked in safely. The nurse did four follow-ups over the next few days, and did a lot of research with other doctors and nurses and manuals to answer my questions (and to double-check that my treatment was optimal). As I have to go to a walk-in clinic for tomorrow's follow-up (due to the clinic's restricted hours), she told me exactly what to ask them for, and told me what to look out for (so that I could stand up for myself). I am impressed beyond words; the whole experience has restored my faith in the medical system.
Also, for the one week it gave me no noticeable problems, the IUD was fantastic. I hope that my uterus decides to like it as much as I do, but this whole mess is making that rather difficult. :(
