Smoking

I'm so sorry if this has already been answered a hundred and one times, but I don't know how to find stuff if it's not tagged... please just direct me to the proper question if this is old news.

Anyway... I'm wondering how bad is bad in terms of smoking when you're on the pill? Is it only really dangerous if you smoke a lot, or am I putting myself at risk if I smoke at all?

I *definitely* don't smoke regularly, but sometimes I like to be a "social smoker." Giving myself a *large* allowance, how harmful would be, say, eight cigarettes in a month (like two a weekend)?

And are all things equally as bad? Cigarettes? Cloves? Hookah? I guess it's all tobacco. And is that the culprit here?

Sorry - I really don't know much about this. Thanks for your help!

(Btw - I'm 19.)

Background: Sexually active for two years, was on Desogen for a year and stopped taking it a month ago. This is the first month I've been off of it and have not received my period yet. I have very long cycles (almost two months) and assumed that it's elongated because I could be reverting back to my old cycles, I'm stressed out of my mind, and it's possible I'm still synched up with my mom now that I'm off the pill. I did have sex once with a condom, no leakage or breakage or anything.

I've been expecting my period for a couple days now. The symptoms of my period before getting on the pill were more discharge than normal, sore nipples, a very unique and identifiable smell a couple days beforehand, gassiness, and abdominal soreness when I pee--exactly what I'm experiencing now. On the pill I still had sore nipples and more discharge, but the cramps were in my lowerback and would ache randomly.

The pill caused a slightly thicker discharge so I would, in the shower, clean around some with a finger to get out some of that discharge. I JUST took a shower, went about my normal routine, and pull out my finger to see a solid white clump of discharge. SOLID. It doesn't smell yeasty and the vag just smells like it normally does when I'm about to menstruate. I have had no burning when I pee (I drank a bunch of cranberry juice because I had a dream I had a UTI--I don't think that counts though), no irritation, no nothing. This thick discharge wasn't there yesterday. In fact, yesterday was completely normal aside from the "period smell."

Is this possibly just weirdness due to dropping the pill and insane amounts of stress delaying my period?

EDIT: Okay, so, just after I posted this I started experiencing "twinges" between my urethra and clit. I have a tendancy to worry to the point to where things begin to manifest themselves, plus I've been digging around a bit to just make sure. Whether it matters or not, I'll let you experts decide.

Thanks!!

Hey everyone, new here. I skimmed the archives but didn't quite find what I was looking for, so hopefully this is still appropriate to post here.

I was wondering, how common is it to get what seems like a normal period while pregnant?

I'm asking because I had a pregnancy scare about 3 weeks ago and had to resort the morning after pill for the first time. I got my period (thankfully) about a week and a half later, about 3 days earlier than I was expecting it. Other than being early, it was completely normal in flow and length, and the moderate cramping was there as usual too. As you can imagine I was incredibly relieved, but then I started reading about how some women can still have regular periods during their pregnancy and I started to get a little worried again. I'm not currently and have never been on any form of hormonal birth control, if that's at all important. I'm just wondering if I'm being completely silly for worrying and if I should even bother buying a home pregnancy test.

Thanks in advance, ladies.

Hello,
I'm new here. I'm thinking about going off the pill (I'm currenctly on tricyclen lo), and I have a few questions:

- Does it matter when I stop taking them, or should I wait and finish my pack?

- I've gained about 15lbs since starting the pill, am I going to lose the weight once I'm off?

- Do things go out of whack for a bit when getting off, or is it generally a smooth transition?

MUCH thanks. :)

Hi. I'm Kayla and I've only posted here once before.

I need advice from you lovely ladies. =D

I'm fifteen, and thus I do not own a credit card, so I cannot purchase the divacup via website on my own and there are no stores within walking distance that sell them. Sooo, I must turn to my guardianperson to help me.

Only problem is, asking her would be terribly awkward. Seeing as how I'm insanely shy, I can't walk up to her and say, "Hey, buy me this."

So I figure I will email her the link. I just dunno what to say in the email. =P

I figured I could be like, "Buy it for me." because I'm all straightforward like that. But I feel that I should give her a reason. The most obvious reason being I just don't like pads and I don't wanna use a tampon at all. But again, my shyness kicks in, even on the wonderful intarweb.

So.. y'know.. help me word this. I wanna tell her it's all healthy-like, environmentally safe, and generally better than anything else out there.. But I don't wanna say it like that. Lmao.

So uhm.. yeh. Assistance? -puppydog eyes-

..Also, I wanna say that this is a wonderful community that has helped me become very informed about my body and how things work. =) Much love for all you wonderful women.

EDIT: Well.. I asked my aunt and she was like "Aaarghs;ithn;itnh unsanitary."
Little help? D:

Hello everyone,

This morning I woke up feeling fine, have been feeling fine for quite some time now ... but when I went to the bathroom I noticed there was yellowish discharge on the toilet paper, it didn't have a foul odor and wasn't clumpy ... is this anything to worry about? I'm not experiencing any itching or types of body pains. Could this be a treatable yeast infection? This is the first time I've ever experienced discharge of any sort. Thanks for your help!

Hello everyone.
This community has always been helpful so hopefully it will again.

Ok. My period's been weird for a while. It all came to a head when I had this INSANELY heavy flow (soaking through a super tampon in an hour). I had this for a good 2 or 3 weeks. I was petrified of the gynecologist, but finally went. It sucked. I started crying, and they kept asking what my problem was, had I had a bad experience or something? No, I'm just extremely self-conscious and disgusting. Anyway, the end result was, she put me on birth control. Ovcon. She said to take 3 a day for 5 days, then 2 for a few days, then 1 a day. I did this, except I forgot the part about "go down to 2 after the fifth day"..and I got the worst headache ever. It made my life miserable. Plus, I felt nauseated. So I quit taking them. Then I called her and told her what happened, and she was like, "Well, there aren't really any other options. You need to take birth control to get your bleeding to stop. You're going to feel sick, it will happen with any dosage this high of bc. Just wait it out if you want to not bleed. Start again on Sunday [this phone call happened on, like, a Tuesday], take one a day."
So I did that. And it was fine--no blood, no headache.
However, I happened to forget a pill a few days ago. I just plain forgot. I didn't know you are supposed to take it as soon as you remember..so I just waited til the next day and resumed taking them. However. That VERY next day, my cooter began to bleed. A lot. And it still is. Even though I've been taking the pills daily. Saturday, I believe, was the day I missed my pill. So I've been bleeding since Sunday. This is not cool, I am using up a lot of tampons and ruining underwear. Also, I am supposed to be hooking up with someone soon, and that won't be much fun if I can't get any poontang pleasure! So, anyone have any advice? Why am I still bleeding? What if it never stops? Should I take the pill three times a day again?
Thank you much.

My boyfriend and I have decided to finally do it. I don't mean to sound stupid and ignorant, yes I know things about sex but I'd like to hear your thoughts, advice, tips or perhaps you can share with me your experience of sex for the first time. Also, what's the best position to engage in for the initial penetration? Missionary? Can we try other positions after that? Oh and I am one of those girls born without an intact hymen (thus it is a myth that women who do not bleed during first time sex is not a virgin anymore) so given that... will I bleed or there will be no bleeding at all? Also my period is expected on April 20th. Would it be safe do it today? I won't engage in unprotected sex. Rubber will be used of course but i'd like to be safe and sure. Should we use a lubricant too? And what's the best type/kind of condom to use? Thanks for taking time to read this. I am excited and nervous. This is a special moment. I'd like to be prepared/armed with knowledge and at least hear what you've got to say regarding this matter. Thanks again.

Forgive me if this has been posted before, I've been googling and not really coming up with anything useful, so I'm turning to you lovely ladies.

I've come back to my parents home for reading week, but I left my pills back at my house away. There isn't really a way I can get them, and I don't have any other pills around. I was just starting week three (on a Sunday start.) Since I'm not going back until Monday... that's a lot of pills to miss.

I'm not likely to have any sex this week, so pregnancy's not an issue, but how should I handle this? I know I should be prepared to start my period early - if I do, should I get a new pack and start it next Sunday? Should I wait until I would have normally started the next pack (two weeks from now)?

EDIT: Also, if I do try to get a new pack, it'll be at least another 24 hours, since my pharmacy's annoying like that.

Thanks very much for any help you can give me.

this is the 5th time in 5 months i've had BV.
i get it every month after my period ends.
i decided i would go to the doc since i haven't been since january.
(due to insurance issues i've posted about before.)

the nurse hooked me up with four free samples of metrogel. (i used it before)
she also wrote me a prescription for the boric acid capsules.
she told me to try the metrogel,
if that doesn't work, do boric acid
and try repHresh (which i've seen at walgreen) starting when my period ends to prevent it.

How often do you and your SO have relations per week? per month?

How long have you been in a relationship with your SO?

What are your ages?

Hey Ladies, Hopefully I can find some help here.

I already posted in am_i_pregnant, but was dissapointed by the help offered. converstation and other information can be found http://community.livejournal.com/am_i_pregnant/86604.html there.

This is my first month off from NuvaRing in 3 years and any type of hormonal  BC in about 5, needless to say my period hasn't shown up yet. I last had it on 3/9 and should ( if i was still on Nuva) gotten it on 4/6. I havn't been sexually active since October and my periods had been regular and normal. Now my concern:

Last night I had intercourse and my partner was in for maybe 5 seconds with out a condom ( yes I am aware it was stupid, no chance of STI's we've both been tested recently), but he pulled out and we strapped on a rubber and kept going. Now there was NO EJACULTION at any point last night. Last week 4/6 we also had intercourse, but there wasn't really any bare genital contact ( no ejaculation then either).

These were totally random, which figures since I just went off BC and if I decide to continue to be sexually active I am going on back on it, but for now...

What are my chances of pregnancy with the time that he was acctually in me? And am I just being overly paranoid because I don't know what my cycle is like with out hormones?

Thank you so much to anyone that can offer some help.

hey,

i was just wondering, how important is it to keep schedule of your period cycle? like 29 days, or so and so days? and if it is important, is the 29 days symbolic of since the last period began or ended? i know this may seem like a totally stupid question, but my mom has been bugging me for forever to use a calender and mark things down, and i normally just go w/ the flow of if i'm on my period, then i'm on it...no worrying about days or anything. (i am not on BC, and have no chance of being pregnant b/c i'm planning on waiting till marriage)

as well
my friend who's on BC b/c of a flow problem wanted to know if she could get pregnant when she got off her medicine. she went on it her second month of ever getting her period b/c it would always just be constant bleeding, but if she takes the pill 20 mins late she starts bleeding again. she doesn't realy trust her doctor so i'm wondering if you girls have advice for her? she's just worried about what will happen when she has to get off the pill?

thanks in advance girlys!!! you guys are always so awesome.

I read all through the YI FAQ and didn't find anything, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I hate the taste of cranberry juice, actually I despise it. However when I went on the pill the doctor advised me to drink it in healthy doses to prevent UTIs and YIs. So, I've been drinking it, but not happily. But, today when I went in to Longs Drug store, I saw what I think could be my newest hero. Cranberry Pills. they're a herbal supplement, do you think that they have the same YI/UTI preventing capabilities as cranberry juice?

Also I know Apple Cider Vinegar is supposed to help get rid of YI if would those supplements work as a YI prevention measure as well?

Anyway feel free to delete this if you feel it isn't appropriate, I just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. :D

For the last couple of weeks I've been mildly nauseous, experiencing rather severe breast pain, mild cramping, etc. combined with nasty mood swings and general depression.

However, I'm on OTL and use condoms, so I figured it was not babies... but I was scared anyway. I finally buckled down and took a pregnancy test, which came out negative, but I still can't find an explanation for those symptoms. I figured, especially after talking to [livejournal.com profile] mangofandango, that this is the OOPS, YOU SHOULD NOT BE ON THIS PILL kind of situations, and I'm going home (to my Doctor) on Friday.

However, over the last couple days I've noticed a strange symptom that I saw on the prescription to watch out for... My left ankle (and according to my SO, my left leg in general) is swollen. Noticeably.

It isn't painful or causing me any discomfort, but my pill pack says to watch out for this. Again, it's ONLY my left ankle, but it is visibly noticeable.

Am I right to think this is my pill? What else could be causing it? What can/should I do?

i've been visiting from afar and not joining or posting for a WHILE, but this is bothersome.

madly so.

in short: my vaginal opening has been itchy and sensitive the last day or so. there's no weird discharge OR too disgusting of an odor -- nothing a shower doesn't fix [sweat, mostly, i think, causes that].

i sort of want to blame it on my new vibrator. there's no real difference in circumference. it's a bit shorter, but that doesn't interfere with anything. >_>

this happens, though, no matter how i wash it.

sorry if i've messed up some code of conduct or something.

thanks for the post, at least.

I have gotten several UTIs and this past one was SUPER, SUPER, SUPER painful... they never have been before... anyways, the pharmacist recommended "uristat" i think by the same people as monistat. Anyways, this SAVED me. I couldnt do ANYTHING, because I was in so much pain, and one little pill held off the pain for more than 12 hours!!

I dont work for the company or anything, I just wanted people to know in case this happens to anyone.

And always remember, just because the pain is temporarily relieved, you still need to get to a doctor for antibiotics ASAP so the UTI doesn't spread and cause more severe problems.
