Cervical Mucus

My fiance and I are trying to concieve. I have been fertile since Friday. I have a problem with ovarian cysts, so much so that when I ovulate, I get a little bloated and crampy. So, tonight, I was having a bit of that and decided to attempt sex.

When he pulled out of me, a gel-like substance came out and it was kind of clearish-whitish. Could that have been my cervical mucus? And if it was, wouldn't that mean I was really fertile?

I have ovarian cysts as well. My fiance and i are ttc as well.. were having a bit of a problem.

Did he ejaculate inside of you? if so it could just be some left over ejaculation.

(don't quote me, i might be wrong.)

no, i havent had the same problem. although - when my fiance and i do anything, sometimes a white sort of mucus comes out right after he pulls out. (ive always just thought its left over ejaculation.)

see me with my ovarian cysts . they are irregular - so i get it once every 6 months. which isnt normal for many people.

me, i wait each month and it never comes. i wish i could set a watch to my period. it would be great!

believe me, im just learning, so its going to be difficult at first.

The gel-like substance sounds like fertile quality cervical mucus. It is sometimes described as egg white cervical mucus because that's what it looks like. If it was stretchy and slimy that's probably what it was. Good luck on baby-making.

Have you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler? I've recently started trying FAM and I recommend that every woman read that book, whether they want to try FAM or not. It teaches you how to tell you have fertile cervical mucus and what parts of your cycle to try getting pregnant more accurately. Although, you say you know you've been fertile since Friday...so you might already do that. :)

I second reading this book. It is wonderful :D

Best of luck!

i get that glob at the point in time of my cycle when i'm probably ovulating (don't chart anymore so i don't really know).
and as much as people say it's fertile mucus, it's nothing like any fertile mucus i've ever heard described or seen the the pics.
it's like a fat string of jelly, right? sometimes has streaks of white? - is the same shape as a large, long clot that has been squished through your cervix while you're menstruating.

it's not semen. because i get it even when i not having sex. though twice my parter has ended up with it on his cock... which he found a little disturbing. =)

so yes, i think it is the plug. maybe some of us have a larger/thicker one than others. because few people seem to get/notice it.

Fertile quality cervical fluid is generally stretchy.

yes but fertile quality cervical fluid is also usually fluid. in one way or another.

in my experience - and assuming that the OP and I are sharing the same - this was not.
I get fertile "egg white" fluid, and this is not it. the best way to describe it without providing photos is gelatinous. it is thick globular mucus that comes out in one long clump, not as general (lubricating) fluid.
as i said before, it's rather like a long thick blood clot, but made of mucus. and technically, for the purpose of fertile fluid, it wouldn't do the job.

heh. you played with it too. =)

it took me awhile to get over the weirdness of it... but i'm just assuming it's a normal part of my vag etc cleaning herself out periodically.

I've actually ended up with a condom stuck inside me on cervical mucus. It was... weird.

if you havent checked out FAM, you definitely s hould. It will tell you when you are most fertile, and therefore, when would be your best time to try to get pregnant.

The book that most people learn FAM from is Toni Weschler’s Taking Charge of Your Fertility (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0060881909/lifecyclefertili). Hands down, this is the best book on the topic if your local Planned Parenthood doesn’t offer classes. If you can find the book at your local bookstore, the middle color insert has pictures of different examples of cervical fluid.

As for cervical fluid vs vaginal moisture vs seminal fluid: Vaginal moisture evaporates when exposed to air; seminal fluid doesn’t stretch and will dissolve in water; and cervical fluid doesn’t evaporate into the air and, in water, will sink to the bottom. It can range from sticky/gummy when starting to approach ovulation to creamy/lotiony when closer to ovulation to watery or eggwhite and eggwhite is considered the most fertile and usually coincides with ovulation.

Most public libraries carry it as well if you want to take a look at it before investing. It's totally worth the money and I highly recommend it as well.

if it helps, i just checked my copy of the book in question and its pics are of no help. presuming you and i have the same experience then it just doesn't match up. (plus her visual depictions are pretty lame).
but... i also checked a copy of a book i have on the billings method - and they have an image of preovulatory mucus that is a *little* more similar.

however, with a little more reading (in the billings book) there is a paragraph: you may see a lump of cloudy mucus that has been resting like a plug in the cervix and going by this, if in the days after you see the lump/jelly string, your mucus becomes thinner - ie heads towards the fertile stereotype, then this might mark the point at which your body enters it's fertile period! yay!

I don't know what it was, but I hope it meant you were fertile!!! GOOD LUCK!!!
