I read the instructions the vibe I've had for a while (the brand is "Shane's World" by California Exotic Novelties), and they said not to put my vibe near other thigns that would cause a chemical reaction.

That made me wonder, should I be putting this thing on my clit? I don't want to poison my vag. I do like it, it's very quiet and gives me decent orgasms (although I use to finsih myself off, since the batteries wear down fast otherwise. It takes 3 watch batteries.

I figured maybe I should get a new vibrator. I though about the Hitachi, but I want something that my roomie won't hear. I heard the Hitachi is noisy. Is this true? So anyone have any recomendations for a quiet clitoral stimulator?

Do you know what type of material your toy is made of? I know that most silicone toys are not supposed to be used with silicone lube because it can cause the solid silicone of the toy to break down, but silicone toys are quite safe.

I am actually going to buy one later this weekend, though, so I will soon have a better idea of how much noise they make. :)

I don't know what my current vibe is made of. It doesn't say on the package or the instructions. It's hard plastic, and has an odour most other plastic things I own don't have (it's always had that smell, but you can only smell it when I put it up close to my nose. It's not a vulva smell, FYI). I think it mught be a silicone mix, as the mist above said, because it was one of the least expensive.

The Layaspot looks interesting; I might take a trip to the sex shop and buy one. Thanks for the recommendation. Is it widely available in sex shops?

Does it smell like a brand-new shower curtain? If so, it probably has some polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in it, which some studies have shown to be potentially harmful. Whatever it's made of, if you're worried about it being harmful, you could put a condom over it when you use it. :)

I believe that the Layaspot is pretty widely available. You could always call your local sex shop -- if they don't stock it, they may be able to recommend a similar vibe that they do carry.

If you're referring to the Hitachi Magic Wand, my personal recommendation is that I would advise against it. True, it's an absolute classic masturbation accessory, and it has doubtless given countless women an awful lot of memorable nights.

However, my partner and his best friend used to manage a porn and sex toy store, and they stocked the Wand (among other things). A popular way for them to pass time was by turning it on and seeing how long they could hold it before their hands went totally numb; its higher settings are extraordinarily powerful, and not necessarily in a good way, and it is both fairly loud and quite large and unwieldy compared to other vibes.

In Betty Dodson's "Sex for One," she recommends using the Hitachi (or any powerful vibrator) with a towel folded up between you and it. The vibrations spread out a little more that way and, obviously, you can vary the thickness of the towel depending on how many times you fold it.

An added plus I've noticed with the towel method is that it also muffles the sound quite a bit. I don't have roommates, so I'm not sure if the sound is unnoticeable with the towel. Either way, the "indirect method," if you will, does cut down on the possibility of numbness and makes the powerful vibes a little more subtle.

The chemical reaction means that if you place the velvety-material toy next to jelly material toy, it actually melts together. I've seen this.
