Nipple Piercings
I know this is a little Off-Topic but could anyone recommend a good community on LJ to learn more about nipple piercings? or does anyone want to tell me about their own experiences? Im just curious about the process, how much it hurts (tho its different for everyone). I don't plan on having any children, so Im not worried about Breast feeding but I heard it doesn't really affect that (though all piercings have risks of complications).
Thanks:) If this is too far OT, feel free to delete.

All in all they were GREAT piercings, but the jewellery was big and clunky, and when I started working in an office they were clear and somewhat inappropriate. I have been thinking about gettng them back but dont think Im interested in the 6-8 weeks of healing I had to go through the first time.
Hope this was helpful!!

What do you start with when they pierce you? a barbell or a ring or do you decide?
I work in a warehouse that distributes porn, so its a laidback place. So I am lucky in that aspect. I figure you could get some jewelery that lays sort of flat?

I don't know if you have any other piercings, but I'm going to compare it to ears.
I have a zillion ear piercings. When I got my nipples done, I had a cartilage piercing done in my left ear at the same time.
The nipples hurt more during the actual PIERCING, but the ear cartilage was a zillion times more sore than the nips. They're easy to take care of and mine healed up super well... even for me, and I'm a picker. There are no crusties for me to pick on my nipple piercings, even though I did it a lot at first (DO NOT DO THIS. YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO).
Of all my 17 piercings (12 earlobes and up, one regular cartilage, one industrial), I think they are probably the best for healing after earlobes. Easy to take care of and you can put fun stuff in them! My boyfriend's sort of indifferent to them, but probably 'cause he's used to them.
I have barbells, which I would recommend... I think circular rings in nipples look weird.
I never had much sensation in my nipples and it did increase their sensitivity, but I don't like the feeling anyway, so I don't have much to say on that.
Any other questions, I'll be glad to answer. You may also want to check out

I still love them to death, though. And I'm around a 36D, if that makes any difference. Was probably a C cup, though, when I had them done. :)

Just make sure you get a reputible place to get it done at. I mean, beyond that, it all differs from person to person. And, make sure you're comfortable with the person doing it. Especially if you'd prefer a woman (a guy did mine, but he'd done a bunch of my other piercings by that time, so I was cool with it).
Anyways, best of luck!

Overall my nipples aren't that sensitive. They seem to be more sensitive when I am aroused (duh) but in general they don't see to be.
I'll definately look around. I am from Massachusetts and Im not aware of too many places. but I'll do some research. and I'd probably talk to them about it before having it done. I'd also have my boyfriend tag along. I assume they would let him hold my hand...hehe if need be.
thanks for your comment:)

I had CBR's in mine, and then swapped out for curved barbells. I did everything i could think of any they just wouldnt heal and kept rejecting. So, after TWO YEARS of trying to keep them, i finally had to retire my rings (says a prayer and cries for dearly departed rings o' doom)
Now for comparison, i have my navel pierced as well as my nostril and a few ear piercings, and the only other piercing i have had trouble with was my navel (until i switched to a curved barbell) so yeah.
Totally up to you, and everyone heals differently, but yeah, they're fun to have :)

I have only my ears pierced (two holes in each) and they get crusty sometimes from earrings but I think it's just allergies to the metal in the jewelry. My holes don't close though...even if I don't wear earrings for awhile.
I'll keep what you've said in mind.

i do have to disagree with the previous posters on healing time though. most piercers will tell you that a nipple ring will take 3 to 6 months to heal, where something like an eye brow or labret (both of which i've had) only take a month or two to heal completely. the actual soreness goes away after the first couple of weeks, but being able to manipulate or do anything with it without the risk of infection takes a while. i've actually had more trouble with this piercing than any other that i've ever had. it is constantly getting infected. i don't dare touch it or let my boyfriend get near it for fear it will get infected. i would suggest sticking with sea salt soaks well beyond the healing period just to be sure everything's okay.
oh, and make sure you go to a reputable piercer because my friend had hers done by crappy piercer and he did it too shallow so it ended up migrating until she finally took it out. oh, and last thing, make sure that if you get a barbell, that it's long enough because i had to go back after a few weeks to get mine changed to a longer bar.

How much seasalt to water do you use? Do you just dip your boob into a bowl with the water? hehe...
I heard about that sort of thing happening...being too shallow and having it migrate out. That scares me a little. Did she get it repierced after it healed? How far into the nipple should they pierce?
Should the length of the barbell stay within the width of the areola? How long is yours?

Honestly, it didn't really hurt. Like someone biting me, and then it as just a bit sore for a couple weeks, mostly if I accidentally brushed by boob against something. My sister also punched me in the breast about two days afterward, so that probably didn't help either.
Healing was fabulously easy. I've never had any problems or infections, although I do get nipple goo, but I've read that that's normal because of all the ducts you have in your nipple. But I'm all into the TMI nonsense, so its kind of cool.
My nipples are completely flat, and now the left one sticks out a bit which I like. I haven't had a problem with it showing through bras, but if I go without you can see it.
I am rambling, but I love my nipple piercing, and if you want to get one, go for it. The nice thing about piercings is that the holes will heal up when you take them out.

How long did it take you to heal completely?

I've had my nipples pierced several times, most recently at an 8g. I would definitely recommend barbells over rings (CBRs) for healing, especially if you're not used to healing body piercings, and I would go with titanium rather than SSS if you're already having metal allergies with your ears.
They can be very hard to heal, especially for larger chested women, and I know that some people have said that their nipples never truly heal even after years (one of the people from the QOD I linked said that his hadn't healed after 10 years).
no subject
What size did you start with?
Thanks, does the Titanium cost more? or less? or the same?
Im a 36B, so hopefully that means fast healing. but wow...10 years? I dunno, I don't think I would let it go on that long!

My biggest piece of advice would be to use barbells for a more pleasant healing process and be careful of snagging when braless. (It happens more often than you think. Yeow.)

Seems like people with larger breasts seem more likely to get a piercing, but I don't know how true that is.

I believe mine to be healed now because it doesn't hurt anymore and the crusties are rare. I had an excellent piercer who was very quick and good about the whole process. I recommend getting pierced with a barbell because mine healed up very well with no problems.
I'm not sure if you have any other piercing, but I had my rook done before my nipple and it was the most PAINFUL thing I've ever gone through. Thats an area of pretty thick cartilage, so I can tell you that nipples are significantly less uncomfortable than that (for me at least).
I've always found the "piercing" and "bmezine" communities to be useful. Good luck!

All I have pierced are my ears...2 holes each.

1. i prefer barbells. they are just easier in my opinion.
2. do not let other people get ANY bodily fluids on them until totally healed.
3. BMEzine.com is awesome
4. you know that trick where you unhook your bra, then pull your arms out of the straps, then pull the bra out from under your shirt? BE CAREFUL! i cannot tell you how many times i've gotten a strap caught on the end of the barbell. ouch.
5. they almost never show. but just in case, have a lined bra (or padded) for times when you really can't chance it.
6. they get cold. winter can be rough on them.
7. when i got them pierced, i wore a tank with a shelf bra under my regular shirt instead of a bra. after it was done, i stuck ice cubes between the shelf and the tank! it helped me avoid pain.
other than that, i think everyone else covered everything. but if you have more questions, feel free to ask!
best of luck!
