more cloth pads!

hey everyone, I just joined recently and have really enjoyed the discussion here, this place is great!

[livejournal.com profile] frygurlpip recently asked about finding cloth pad distributors but I'm actually more interested in hearing everyone's experiences with cloth pads, good or bad. I would also love it if someone could help me understand how they work - it just seems to me that they would be super bulky.

thanks so much
jen :)

I find them to be a bit more bulky than plasticy pads - for instance, I tend to not bike long distances while using them - but they aren't bad. The pads I have have small double wings, one part staying by your leg, the other attaching on the ouside of the panties with a couple lingerie snaps. I pay more attention to how much blood is in them because on really heavy days I'd have to change them when the plasticy pads could usually last the whole time. All in all, it has been a great experience. I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone, though. For instance, you wouldn't want to wear spandex. :)

The waste that all the plastic pads produced, mostly, and also the thought that "hey, if it feels best to have cotton underwear snuggling my girly bits, it'll probably feel best to have cotton pads". You can get smaller trial type packs of them to see if they're right for you.

My apologies for being a tad late. :) I've used cloth pads for a couple of months now, and I much prefer them to disposables. It gets really humid where I live (esp. in summer) and that always made the disposables stick to my skin. I always felt like I had a mega wedgie. Plus the adhesive would get stuck to my pubic hair sometimes, and my cats seem to think that used pads are nifty toys. (They don't seem to notice the cloth ones, though.) They are kinda bulky, but it's more like having a pillow in your undies than a wad of TP. As the other commenter said, you wouldn't want to wear spandex with them, but they work fine with jeans.
