Trimming

Hiyo! I have a question for you all.

I like to keep my pubic area trimmed, and my SO likes to keep his trimmed as well. Usually I use a pair of small scissors, patience, and a steady hand, but he's suggested I use his beard trimmer, which is what he uses to keep himself nice and neat. However, I'm a little leery of having vibrating blades near my vulva, though he promises I won't cut myself.

Is using a beard trimmer for the pubic area a good idea? Have any of you gals done it before? How successful was it?

Thanks in advance!

I've used my beard trimmer on my girlfriend a number of times. Even without the guard on, it's very difficult for the blades to break skin. Though it's still a sensitive area, so I'd keep the guard on anyway.

My husband did it for me with his beard trimmer, and it was all fine and dandy...especially the fun vibration that led to sex afterwards. ;)

i've never used a beard trimmer...i invested in a women's shaver for that purpose. :)

I use a pair of hair clippers with the 1/8 inch guard and then shave the rest off if I let it get past 1/8 inch without trimmimg/shaving it.

A facial beard trimer works great for the ol'bearded clam too! ;P

I prefer to have my husband take care of it for me, as I'm not all that co-ordinated, and I like it best the length it makes it without any guards on. I have never ever had any nicks or cuts doing it this way. Depending on the length you prefer, a guard may be a good idea, but I would think it would be a little more difficult to maneuver around the more delicate areas. One of the little "wand" style trimmers (about $10 at most drug stores) would work pretty well for that I think.

I agree with the above comment about the vibration, btw...muahaha!

Those things won't cut your skin; they have built-in guards on them that keep the actual blades from ever touching your skin.

I've used a hair trimmer like they have at the barber shop. It worked out fine, although I don't use it down on the lips, just on the insides of my legs and on my mons area. I use an electric shaver for the rest. :)

I use a beard trimmer, works great! Like [livejournal.com profile] shotie said, they don't cut your skin, i even use my without the plastic guard/gage thing, and i've never cut myself. Razors are a lot more likely to cut you then a beard trimer.

I use the Remington Trim and Shape (http://www.amazon.com/Remington-BKT-1000-Shape-Bikini-Trimmer/dp/B0000BY85E) which is essentially the same thing. It is very hard to actually cut yourself with a trimmer, even without the guard. I use mine without the guard around my most delicate areas (around my perineum and labia) and I've never cut myself. Just be careful to hold the skin taught.

I grabbed my spouse's old electric razor and use the beard trimmer attachment all the time. Occasionally I may nick myself, but rarely, and if I hold it so the blades are cutting the hairs at right angles -- think the woodsman with the axe and the tree, heh -- then I don't touch skin at all. Also, the nicks don't hurt much.

I use a beard trimmer on the whole area and have never had any kind of nicks or cuts. When I used to use scissors I did cut myself quite badly one time. I could actually see the cut (about 1/4 of an inch) on one of my inner labia. It looked terrible and I was worried about how it would heal but it healed up fine and there is no scar or misalignment.

Just a bit of a different viewpoint...

Since there are several comments saying it's "very difficult" to cut oneself with a trimmer. This is true, I think; using a trimmer has certainly decreased the number of hair-removal-related nicks and cuts I experience.

I also see some people saying such trimmers "don't" or "won't" cut skin. Yes. They will. ;) Though I'll admit I may just be all kinds of speshul in the pubic hair removal department, I have, on occasion, drawn blood with a trimmer.

That said, it's likely a safe option. I know I've said I cut myself with a trimmer, but I do it far more with a razor. Keeping a guard on -- maybe at first until you get used to it, maybe always if you decide you like that length -- is likely a good option since it should keep the blades themselves further away from your skin, reducing the already small chances of nicks even further. :)

My girlfriend uses one.
