Inducing Period

One way I can always tell that my period is on its way is that my breasts get extremely sensitive 3-4 days before my period starts.

They have been sensitive for over 2 weeks, and just today i was getting small minor cramps that also tell me that my period is coming, and i have extremely irregular periods, that its hard to say when my next one will start.

But on friday I am leaving for Mexico for a couple of days and I wanted to know if Parsley Tea can help induce my period. Or if it is just known to work for those who know they have missed their period?

blah i hope that made sense.

I would rather be on the end of my period when im on vacation, than just starting it while im there.

Not wishing to panic you but is there any way you could be pregnant?

Breast sensitivity and cramping are also a symptom of early pregnancy.

I know parsley tea has a reputation for inducing periods, but I'm not sure how much it does so nor how it's meant to work. I can tell you more about how menstrual cycles work, however.

There are two parts to the menstrual cycle: the follicular phase, which is from the start of menstruation until ovulation, and the luteal phase, which is from ovulation until the next menstruation. The luteal phase is pretty much of a fixed length, usually in the region of 14 days, and each woman's luteal phase won't vary by more than a day or so. So when cycles are of variable length, it's the follicular phase that's varying. For instance, stress can delay ovulation, which lengthens the whole cycle.

Once ovulation is past, the length of that cycle is basically fixed, though if you don't know when you ovulated (it's possible to know using the tracking signs of the Fertility Awareness Method), you won't know when your period is due. So you can't affect the length of your cycle, i.e. when your period is due, once you've ovulated for that cycle. In other words, heaven knows what the theory with parsley tea is, but as far as I know, you can't change when your period is due, nope. If having irregular periods is a nuisance for you, by the way, you could try FAM ([livejournal.com profile] fam), that will at least tell you when they're due.

PMS generally doesn't go on for more than the length of the luteal phase, so if you've been having sore breasts for a fortnight already and you're getting the usual signs with cramping, I'd imagine you're due any minute.

i can't guarantee this for you or anyone else, but personally when i eat a lot (more than usual) i get my period early. that's just an observation of mine, i'm not sure if they're ACTUALLY related..

While I can't help your current situation (though I figure parsley tea won't hurt), the irregularity of your periods might be due to a hormonal issue. I.e., for me, hypothyroidism. Now that I've been taking my little pills, my periods have stabilized a lot. (Possibly a bit too much regularity, even. I could really have preferred that I hadn't started yesterday, curse it. I had plans for after the kid went to bed. *cry*)

Untreated hypothyroidism really, really sucks. So it might be something to check out sometime after you get back.

I hope your trip to Mexico is a good one!

I can't really tell you about parsley tea, but I can tell you about Mexico. If you're going to a resort you'll be a-okay, but if you're going to be in real Mexico, having your period will probably be a pain in the ass some days. Like if you're going to Mexico City to visit Teotihuacan (the pyramids, which I definitely recommend) there's only one or two sets of bathrooms and they're on completely opposite ends of the area. Maybe some in the museum, I don't quite remember. If you'll be going to any sort of small town, I would definitely recommend bringing one of those little travel rolls of your own toilet paper (most places you pay 3 pesos for some, and then they let you in the bathroom - the word for public bathroom is 'servicio', btw) and hand sanitizer.

Hope you have fun :)
