3 day old tampon

yikes! Last weekend I stopped bleeding, but was still spotting. I put a tampon in either Monday or Tuesday and completely forgot about it until today. I just went to the bathroom and while wipping, I found a tampon. (It had no blood on it) I took it out immediately and made an appointment to see my Gyno on Tuesday to make sure I'm okay.

Last night, I went out to dinner and very soon after just a few sips of my drink I felt VERY drunk. After I got home I got pretty sick and today my abs were sore. This all makes sense now even though this is the first time I've made this mistake. Sitting here typing this, I'm dizzy.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? What should I do now?

oh dear, go right away to the doctor!!!, tampons in verrry rare cases can cause t.s.s. (toxic shock syndrome)

From http://womenshealth.about.com/od/menstruation/a/symptomstss.htm
According to the National Women's Health Information Center or NWHIC, if you experience any of the following 7 signs and symptoms of toxic shock syndrome during your period you should contact your health care provider immediately!
1. High fever that appears suddenly
2. Muscle aches
3. Diarrhea
4. Dizziness and/or fainting
5. Sunburn-like rash
6. Sore throat
7. Bloodshot eyes

Sounds like you've got symptoms 2 and 4. It may have nothing to do with it, but I would call a doctor, urgent care, or ER *immediately.* If it is TSS, it isn't something you want to mess around with.

Good luck, I hope everything is ok.

i would say to keep a very, very close eye on yourself considering you already feel a little off. listen to your body. do you feel something wrong? actually, i must say, if i were you, i'd probably go get medical attention right now and not take any chances.

I would go get checked out, but my guess is your abs are sore from getting sick. I know if I throw up a lot my abs get sore.

The thing is, those symptoms are pretty ambiguous.

I get "muscle aches" aka- cramps all the time when I'm on my period. I often get naseaus, and dizzy just because I always feel sick around that time of the month.

Rash/Fever/Diarrhea/Blood Shot Eyes...Well, I have the last from lack of sleep and...you know, it could be any number of things.

Don't get your panties in a knot, but DO keep a close eye on yourself and see a doctor. ^^

Don't worry ........ 1 month here

3 days ..... I had a tampon in me for a month hah. I think I had sex with it in one night when I was drunk and forgot it was there. I went to the gyno because of the odor going on down there. It got so bad we couldn't have sex without wanting to puke. The gyno got my lodged tampon out. I am such an idiot for not even realizing that was the possibility of the odor. Yeah but anyways .... I was fine. My gyno said I was completely fine and that she has had a bunch of cases of this happening ... except the girls always knew they were suck up there. I think maybe your symtoms may just kind of be in your head (like being dizzy). I know I have a tendency to do that.

A month! Yikes!

I did that once, and to tell you the truth, I have no idea how long it was in there (curses the fact that I don't chart my cycle). It was pretty gross, but I did not have any symptoms.
If I were you, I would go to the doctor. It is better safe than sorry.

TSS typically only occurs when there's blood involved.

It's a staph infection, the highest infection rate for menstrating women occured in 1980 when 14/100,000 women had it.

Currently it sits at about 1/100,000 in the US (I say menstrating women because you can get the virus other ways too.. in fact, you're more likely to get it other ways than from tampons these days)

The CDC has set out the following critera:

Major criteria (all 4 must be met)
Fever: temperature >38.9°C (102°F)
Rash: diffuse macular erythroderma
Desquamation: 1 to 2 wk after onset of illness, particularly of palms and soles
Hypotension: systolic blood pressure <90 mm Hg for adults or <5th percentile by age for children <16 yr of age, or orthostatic syncope

Multisystem involvement (3 or more must be met)
Gastrointestinal: vomiting or diarrhea at onset of illness
Muscular: severe myalgia or creatine kinase level twice upper limit of normal for laboratory
Mucous membrane: vaginal, oropharyngeal, or conjunctival hyperemia
Renal: blood urea nitrogen or creatinine level at least twice upper limit of normal for laboratory, or >5 white blood cells per high-power field in absence of urinary tract infection
Hepatic: total bilirubin, aspartate aminotransferase, or alanine aminotransferase at least twice upper limit of normal for laboratory
Hematologic: platelets <100,000/mm3
Central nervous system: disorientation or alterations in consciousness without focal neurologic signs when fever and hypotension are absent

Normal results on the following tests (if performed)
Blood, throat, or cerebrospinal fluid cultures (blood culture may be positive for S aureus)
Rise in titer in antibody tests for Rocky Mountain spotted fever, leptospirosis, or measles

More than likely you're just freaking out and it's stress causing your symptoms. THERE IS ALWAYS A RISK. Get yourself in to see your gyno and get everything checked out to make sure you're healthy. TSS can usually be treated if caught early enough, so don't panic too much.
