waxing moles

Hi all,

I have a relatively large, raised mole near my bikini line in my pubic hair. I'd like to get the area waxed, but I've read that you shouldn't wax over moles. Why is that? What do those of you with pubic moles do for hair removal? Is it okay to pluck hair from moles?

I'm not sure about the answer to this question, but I just wanted to say that I have a mole in the same place. Score! It's towards the right.

Awww, mine's on the left! I've shaved over it, though, and only nicked the bugger once. I always wanted to get it taken off, but am too shy to ask about it.

i think its okay to pluck moles. I'm pretty sure that the only reason they recommend not to is because the wax can get stuck to the mole (since the skin is raised and sometimes a different texture) and you may inadvertantly pull off/tear/hurt your mole! and that would hurt a lot.

you could try it but it could hurt you... if you get someone to wax you, tell them that you have it and where it is. maybe they'd know what to do, or avoid that particular area, and you could do that part.

good luck!

I have a large hair growing from one mole on my thigh and if I pluck that hair, the mole becomes inflamed. The skin also seems to be thinner than elsewhere, and moles seem to bleed more than normally pigmented skin.

Also, I don't know if this is causative or correlative, but the mole, in its process of bleeding, scabbing and healing, has distorted enough that my doc did a biopsy.

I'd be wary of plucking indiscriminately, and be sure to ask your physician if it starts to look funny.

The internet is not helpful in fueling my paranoia. Do you have any references to said studies?

I have a mole on my arm I have repeatedly picked off that then grew back. This seems similar to plucking hair out of it. Should I have a doctor look at it?! I am freaked out now.

According to this (http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/ate/skinandhair/204985.html) site, there is no danger in cutting/scraping a mole, and this (http://www.dermatologychannel.net/moles/) site indicates that it is safe to remove hair from a mole. Because of the texture changes, I suppose there is a risk that it could be cut or irritated by shaving or waxing, but I haven't found anything indicating that it is any more dangerous than irritation on any other portion of your skin.

I think you could cut yourself shaving which would suck.

As for waxing, I think it would just not work quite right and thus the hair wouldn't come out as fast which is what causes bruising.

A pro will tweeze it.
