fertility indicators

About 2 yrs ago I saw an ad in a magazine about a fertility inidcator that you spit on. I remembered Luna in the name. When I googled this I only found that it is now a full kit for pregnancy. Some websites I have found say this product is discontinued.

I also found this bioself website. It is much too expensive for me to order... and spitting on something sounds much more fun.

Does anyone know of a product like this which you can purchase in Canada? And which one is best to easliy measure my cycle?

I am not trying to get pregnant, but I would like to keep better track of my cycle so I can worry less.
For about a year, my period has been arriving on the same day of the month, isn't that strange? It was the 15th, then it became the 20th for the past 3 months. So I have a 30 day cycle, I have never heard of that happening.

Supposedly, you saliva shows a "ferning" pattern under a microscope when you're in the part of your cycle when there's an increase in estrogen. The ones I've seen in fertility kits look no different from cheap kid's microscopes. You don't need anything special.

If you're interested in tracking your body's hormonal changes, I would highly recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility", by Toni Weschler. It has information on how to tr5ack multiple variables (cervical position, cervical mucous, temperature), which makes it much more accurate than tracking a single one (ferning in saliva).

A 30 day cycle sound perfecly normal.

If 30 days is abnormal, then I am REALLY freakish with my 33-36 day cycle! ;)

30 days is very normal.

I study reproduction and when I told my advisor about the spitting kit, which my fellow graduate students and I found at CVS just a few weeks ago, both he and his wife (both are highly acclaimed in the study of reproduction and embryo work) thought it was the most ludacrist thing they had ever heard.

You are MUCH better off tracking your discharge and your cervical movements than anything in your mouth which can be easily affected by brushing your teeth before bedtime and anything you eat. Hormones do affect all of your body but really there is not a scientific way of spitting on a slide to consitently do this each morning.

You can search websites for FAM - the fertility awareness method and also talk to family planning communities. Just because you are not trying to get pregnant does not mean you should not be well informed and you can easily use the info to the converse (aka not having sex on highly fertile days and so on).

If the kit had not cost $45 we wanted to buy it as a gag gift for them! :) they have two kids and are in their 40's and 50's respectively.

Definitely check out the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Teri Weschler. The fertility indicators tell you nothing you can't find out yourself. There's a livejournal community "fam" as well, though it's not terribly active.
