Supposedly, you saliva shows a "ferning" pattern under a microscope when you're in the part of your cycle when there's an increase in estrogen. The ones I've seen in fertility kits look no different from cheap kid's microscopes. You don't need anything special.

If you're interested in tracking your body's hormonal changes, I would highly recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility", by Toni Weschler. It has information on how to tr5ack multiple variables (cervical position, cervical mucous, temperature), which makes it much more accurate than tracking a single one (ferning in saliva).

A 30 day cycle sound perfecly normal.
