Supposedly, you saliva shows a "ferning" pattern under a microscope when you're in the part of your cycle when there's an increase in estrogen. The ones I've seen in fertility kits look no different from cheap kid's microscopes. You don't need anything special.

It has information on how to tr5ack multiple variables (cervical position, cervical mucous, temperature), which makes it much more accurate than tracking a single one (ferning in saliva).
