Feminine Washes

I have a question about the feminine washes that are coming out right now.

I had seen a commercial for the Summer's Eve one awhile ago [link to website] and a commercial for a Vagisil one as well today [link to website].

Just wondering if anyone has tried any of these products and if they really worked. I would like to get one and probably will test them out but I'm curious if anyone has tried them.

**replies about not needing to change our scent, etc are unnecessary :) I personally don't enjoy my scent and would like to lessen it** -without lifestyle changes

All and any feedback is appreciated. Thank you!

I'm sure you'd like your scent even less if you happened to aquire a yeast infection or BV. It's not really about changing your scent that's the problem, but rather more about fixing something that isn't broken. If there really is a problem with how you smell, maybe you should see your gyn? There could be something that needs attention, rather than covering it up with perfumes.

Well, they're both for external use and the summer's eve one says it's hypo-allergenic which usually means it's not scented, so it couldn't be that bad, I suppose. However, it's nothing you coudn't do with just regular old water.

Exactly.

I don't trust 'feminie washes' as far as I can throw them.

hypo-allergenic does NOT mean it's unscented. It just means that if it has scents, they're not likely to cause allergic reactions.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure most if not all of the Summer's Eve washes are scented.

They'd have to be...Otherwise, what would be the point of buying water in a pretty package?

the thing is this -- using these products will not lessen your scent. they will make it worse. if you feel your scent is a problem, talk to your gyno.

They don't change it, they just cover it. And eventually wear off and sort of blend with your own scent, like underarm deodorant that quits by the time you get off work. Which can be a gross combination.

These products would not be a good way to go about changing your scent. They can cause BV or yeast infections, which would make you smell worse and they're no fun.

To change your scent, experiment with your diet. Many woman smell "bad" because they eat a lot of unhealthy, sugary foods. Eat good foods: whole grains, fresh fruit and veggies, and meat, sparingly. See if it changes anytyhing! It does for me.

Woman = women, sorry.

ah, but that ain't gonna happen. as pointed out, these products either have the same effectiveness as plain old water, or will actually make you smell worse in the end.

in order to smell better, you should drink a lot of water and citrus juices, avoid sugar and red meat (or at least cut back), and wash yourself with plain old water regularly. a little ivory or dove *externally* might not hurt, and you can buy baby wipes if you'd like to "freshen up" during the day.

but remember, it's been said here many times before and i'll say it again: your vagina is not supposed to smell like flowers. it is supposed to smell like vagina.

LOL at "your vagina is not supposed to smell like flowers. it is supposed to smell like vagina". That made me laugh.

I can't even use Dove or Ivory because it irritates me so I can't even imagine what these feminine washes would do. It's such a moneymaker for these companies - it's sad.

at certain points in our cycle we smell stronger than at others. but just because you can smell it doesn't mean anyone else can -- do you smell other women's cunts while you're walking around? :)

and most guys are just happy to be down there, as long as it doesn't smell *bad* -- strong and bad are two different things :) our scent is a turn-on :)

[identity profile] wingsoflace.livejournal.com 2005-06-29 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! That scent is supposed to attract men.. it's supposed to be musky and strong and all of those other things. My boyfriend loves my smell and taste :)

personally i wouldnt waste the money on either of them. its best just to clean with water. your vagina is a self cleaning oven and doesnt need these extra chemicals/cleansers to make it *fresh*. most likely these products wil just cause more irritation and or infections. if you was your *bits* everyday in the shower you shouldnt smell super strongly. your scent can also be related to what you eat, if you are eating things that have a strong scent your vag will smell stronger as well. i had a link to a list of foods that make your scent stronger but i cant locate it now....

[identity profile] ilikemytie.livejournal.com 2005-06-29 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I know how much you can hate your scent. I get really strong right before my period. Like being gassed with feminine smell. Generally, though - only you can smell it. The scent of your deoderant is all that other people smell.

When I am smelling pretty strong, what I usually do is take a good scrubby shower and then spray a bit of cologne on the front of my pants. I can't smell it due to the cologne, so it doesn't bother me.

The vagina is a self-cleaning unit. Putting something up there will change your PH and likely give you more problems.

I wasn't even aware they made actual washes. I know you want to change your sent, but honestly it isn't going to happen. All any of the products really do is mask the smell for a little while & I'm guessing the sents they come in are something that just strage for a vagina, like flowers or something. I hate anything floral sented, so my vagina will never smell like flowers if I have anything to say about it. :)

Personally I just use some dove soap externally & sometimes to freshen up, but mainly to get little pieces of tissue off me, I use those wipes they make. That doesn't change the smell of course, but nothing will change the smell for long.

Well, I will probably be pounced on, but... Frankly I like to suds-up my vulva, I feel cleaner afterwards, and I like feeling clean. I've used the Summer's Eve feminine wash (I opted for the sensitive skin version just in case), and had no problems with it at all. No itching, no burning, no infections. I only suds-up my mons, labia majora, and the area between my majora and minora (I have rather long minora, so that might not work for everybody). I leave everything inside the minora alone.

[identity profile] mays-rays.livejournal.com 2005-06-29 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and I didn't notice an increase in smell, either. I didn't notice if it actually decreased my au du vagina, but that wasn't really why I used Summer's Eve anyway, so I didn't pay attention.

[identity profile] moochar.livejournal.com 2005-06-29 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe be a stupid question, but I was just wondering if it's sented & if so, what kind of sents? I just imagine most of these things having those fun floral & sents & other things that just don't smell good at all. That why I stick with dove soap usually.

[identity profile] mays-rays.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm...ya know, I honestly don't remember! Money's been tight, so I haven't used Summer's Eve in a while, I just use the bubbles from my shea/cocoa butter shower gel. If there was any scent, it was very subtle and mild -- I would have remembered if it was an obnoxious scent.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/romantic_/ 2005-06-29 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I have used Summer's Eve for Sensitive skin, and I had no problems whatsoever.

I didn't notice any smells, and I got the one that was unscented. I didn't buy it to decrease my smell, so I don't know how it competes in that corner with other brands.

[identity profile] oboegoddess.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Why did you use it if not to decrease smell? Just curious as to what other use it would be good for.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/romantic_/ 2005-06-30 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
I used it to feel cleaner. And it worked, too.

If you ::really:: want to smell less musky, but are worried about infection you could use a little tea tree oil on your vulva. Just mix it in with a little olive oil or water and it'll make you smell kinda minty.

Plus, tea tree oil is an anti-fungal agent and is not toxic (I've actually seen it in mouth wash).
