(no subject)

Hey gals! Just a question because I want to make sure that I don't have kidney failure or anything.

I started taking a woman's multi-vitamin a few days ago, and now every time I go pee, it's neon yellow. Like highlighter yellow. . . and then starting today, at the end of urinating, it stings a little bit. So, are the neon yellow and the stinging two different things, or could they both be the signs of an UTI? I know the UTI drill; water, cran-tablets, etc but just wanted to make sure that it's nothing worse.

Thanks all!

Neon yellow usually means you've got excess nutrients dumping out.

A multi-vitimin will do that to you. Anything that isn't absorbed...
Shouldn't do you any harm, just remember to drink a bunch of water.

yep, as the two ladies before me have said, your body expels excess vitamins you don't need in your urine. :) no big deal, it's just not needed. but yes, water is always good!

I take a B supplement and it always does that. It's just the formula of the B's. My mutliple doesn't do that.

No worries....although I once had a friend take some Uristat on a dare..you know, the stuff for a UTI that makes your pee orange...he didn't drink much liquid and when he went pee, he about died of shock. He thought he was dying. ;)

Yep, it's probably the vitamin B that goes unabsorbed.

I started taking these (http://www.twinlab.com/vms-product.cfm?Product_ID=1082&SubCategory_ID=VITB) sublingual B12 supplements which are waaaaay better for absorption and now I feel tons better and my pee is no longer neon-colored.

Yup, it's the B vitamins (at least that explains the colour.)

Sometimes concentrated urine (after taking vitamins without enough water...and yes, it will be BRIGHT AS HELL) will irritate my urethra when I urinate. It burns a bit. Drink a bunch of water and it should help. If it still burns when you'va drank enough water for your urine to become clear, consider the dreaded UTI possibility.

That would be your B complex. Amusing and totally harmless.

the kidneys are a complicated system of collecting duct and tubules designed to send nutrients needed back to the bloodstream and waste/excess nutrients to the bladder. Certain changes in intake can result in changes of output. For example: if you eat a steak the size of your head, your urine might test positive for proteins, which are usually absent or only in trace amounts in normal urine. Your kidneys are elimating the nutrients found in vitamins that you dont need. Its totally normal. Increase your water intake, and good girl taking vitamins!

Congratulations! You aren't in kidney failure. It's pretty normal to have neon yellow pee when you start taking vitamins!

If you were having kidney failure - you wouldn't be peeing at all and your body would be swelling. (My 5 year old had kidney failure when she was 14 months, so rest assured that I am positive on this one).

Highlighter yellow - how hillarious! I love a good description!
