Itchy Vagina

Hey everyone, I could use some help,

Last weekend my vagina (right around the entroitus) started to itch like MAD, so badly it hurt and I think I freaked my boyfriend out. I put some benzocaine on it, the itch went away, and I took myself to urgent care on Monday.

There, the very nice gyno said she couldn't see any irritation at all and took a few swabs, all of which were negative. She told me to get some clotrimazole, which I've been using. Since then, it's stopped hurting, but the itching is sticking around.

I have no odor, no abnormal discharge, even when I dig around my cervix, so I don't think it's a yeast infection. Today I gave up and put some plain yogurt in my Mooncup and put it in. Worked the first time, not helping now.

tl;dr: Itchy entroitus, no discharge, no odor. Been checked out by doc and gotten tests done for STIs, YI, and BV. Results negative. Tried clotrimazole and plain yogurt, no results. What do?

TIA!

ouch this sounds very painful. I have been having problems too because it's been a VERY hot summer and I've been sweating more than usual. Have you tried garlic? Also maybe cutting out sugar for a little bit? I know you said you got cultures done and everything came out negative but maybe extra precautions wouldn't hurt?? I hope everything works out for you.

Similar issue

I had a similar (recurring) issue where parts of my vagina would become extremely, painfully itchy, right along the lines of yeast-infection infuriating. Like you however, there was no change in smell, discharge, and the tests my dr. ran came back negative. Because of this, and other issues, my GYN suggested that it might have to do with the type of hormonal birth control that I take - my particular brand caused me to have low estrogen. Low estrogen caused symptoms similar to peri-menopause - most notably dryness (for me both vaginal dryness and dryness across the labia, really just the whole area). In the short term, I found that hydro-cortisone OINTMENT, (not Gel- gel has alcohol in it which can exacerbate dryness issues) can help. If its possible to ask for another scrip you might also try asking for a lidocaine ointment (a topical anesthetic) which on bad days was a godsend for me. Long term, you might talk to your Dr about checking your hormone levels regardless of whether your on hormonal birth control or not. Or, if you prefer a less is more approach, see if the ointment helps first. My issue cleared up but occasionally I'll notice irritation which I address with a safe moisturizer/hydro-cortisone.

This is a very basic (hah hah, no pun intended) solution. I sometimes get itchiness that has no known cause. If I either sit in a bath with some baking soda added, or if I mix about a handful of baking soda into a large sinkful of water and soak a washcloth in it, then hold said washcloth against my vaginal entrance, it calms things down a lot. I grew up in one of those families that's very, very enthusiastic about home remedies, and so, yep...my first instinct is always to try something like that before drugs. This might not help if your itching is more internal (cervix area) but if it's external, it might help a bit.

The disclaimer, too, is that I am terribly allergic to all of the '-azoles,' so I need to find ways around using them for pretty much anything. Ever.
